Ivy's POV
The strong scent of antiseptics hit my nostrils, making me aware of my environment. My mind heavy as I tried to recollect what had happened.
“Dr. Jacob, you are needed in the ER,” some other voice came as I struggled to open my heavy eyelids.
The pain was gone; everything in my body was so quiet that I didn't know whether to be grateful or worried.
I gathered the strength to crack my eyes open, looking around in the hospital room.
“Please, lie down and rest, Miss Ivy,” an unfamiliar manly voice said as he held me gently down.
Looking confused, I asked, “Who…who are you?” My voice was hoarse as I pushed the words out.
“My name's Dr. Jacob; we brought you to the hospital after what happened,” he explained, his voice calm, but anyone observant couldn't miss how he gritted his teeth.
As if he were angry at something or someone. He explained as a tear fell from the corner of my eye, ‘So the incident really happened?’ I thought to myself as I suppressed the tears that wanted to come bursting out.
“How is my baby?” I asked hastily, my hand caressing my stomach.
“I'm deeply sorry, Miss Ivy; we tried everything we could but …”
I couldn't make out the rest of whatever he said as my mind felt as if it had been electrocuted. My heart twisting so hard that it thought I was having a heart attack.
'How could someone I trusted for three years let me lose a baby that we fought hard to have?’
“Damn you, Caleb Richards!” I blurted out my anger as I let out a wail.
“I am so sorry, Miss Ivy,” the doctor said as he patted my back comfortingly. I didn't have the opportunity to question him more, but I was glad someone was there comforting me.
“I am so sorry, babes; if I knew he would betray you, I could never have rooted for him,” Lena said as she helped me sit up.
“You couldn't have known, Lee, my baby's…” I couldn't finish as my whole body shook as I cried my emotions out.
“It's okay, Vivi, everything will be alright,” Lena said, embracing me tightly in her arms. I don't know for how long we stayed that way, but my heart felt a bit lighter.
“Hush now, babes; we don't want you passing out again. Dr. Jacob would have my head if that were to happen,” she said as she soothed my back.
“Dr. Jacob? Why? Do you know him?” I asked, pulling away gently.
“Yeah, he's the specialist I was telling you about. I don't know why, but he seems genuinely interested in you; he even donated blood for you when there were complications during the operation,” Lena explained as I studied the confusion in her face.
“He did what? But I don't know him either,” I asked in shock as I mirrored her confusion.
“Sorry, Sir, Ma'am, you can't go into that room,” a female voice instructed as I heard the door to my ward burst open.
“There you are, you b**ch!” Rahab cursed as she walked towards me, her son and his lover following closely behind.
I didn't flinch, I didn't move, I just stared at her approaching. I knew she hated me, but I really wanted to see just how much.
At the moment I didn't care what they did; they had already taken what mattered to me most, my baby. “I'm sorry, Mrs. Richards, but you and your family will have to go out; you are disturbing the patient,” Lena said, her voice suppressed from how angry she felt.
“Who do you think you are, telling us what to do?” Janey crawled from behind her lover. If I had the energy, I could have chuckled at just how confident she had become.
“Please, Mrs. Richards, leave, or I'll have to call security,” Lena pushed on firmly as he blocked their view from me.
Rahab got closer to Lena as her eyes sized her up and down. “Listen very carefully, b**ch! Mother got sick because of her; I will make you both pay for it!”
‘Oh God, Grandma,’ I remembered what happened just moments before I passed out. Before I could say anything,
Caleb came forward. “Ivy, you are done; I'll make sure you rot behind bars but not before divorcing you!”
I felt as if something hot had burned me. “How dare you, Caleb! You made me lose my baby, and you are here threatening me?” I looked at him in disgust and disbelief.
Just how heartless was this man?
“Some bastard deserved to die. You thought you could trap my husband with your bastard child?” Janey retaliated, caressing her pregnant stomach.
Caleb pulled her closer to him as if she were the most precious thing to him.
“Don't worry, I will deal with her for you; she will pay for what she has done,” Caleb assured her as she gave me an evil grin, as if showing me just who ruled.
“We will use all our power to crush you like an ant! Both of you!” Rahab chipped in, smiling victoriously.
“That is if the Richards family has any power left after I am done with you!” A familiar voice came from the doorway, making us all shift our gaze.
There he was, Dr. Jacob, my guardian angel at the entrance, but this time he wasn't alone.
A pair of ocean blue eyes bore into mine as if he had been searching all his life to see me.
Amidst everything that was going on, I couldn't help but drown in his gaze, his chiseled jawline not helping the course.
“And who the hell do you think you are?” Rahab asked, her voice full of mockery and pride.
The Richards family was renowned, but they had recently come to power, and they were rising quickly.
As the man's eyes shifted to the Richards family, I felt as if I had just broken out of a trance. “Mom…sssh…um… Mr. Moore? What are you doing here?” Caleb's panicked voice asked as he tried to compose a straight statement.
“Do I need your permission to visit my friends or go anywhere I want, Mr. Richards?” the man asked, his voice deepest of all I ever heard.
Everything in me shook in admiration as I tried not to blush but failed terribly. “No, no, I'm sorry, Mr. Moore. I didn't know you had a friend here?” Caleb persisted, refusing to leave without knowing who exactly knew the powerful man.
“Not that it's any of your business, but yes, Miss Ivy and I are old acquaintances,” he said, making my eyeballs almost pop out of their sockets.
‘If I knew such a handsome guy, why would I even look at that arrogant Caleb twice?’ I couldn't control my wild mind as I rolled my eyes.
“Wha…what? Ivy?” He and his lover asked simultaneously in shock. Everyone, even Dr. Jacob, looked at me in shock.
The Moores were known all over the States for their success rate in the business field. Anyone would kill to have a connection with them.
“Now if you would excuse us, I would love the privacy,” Mr. Moore added as he ushered the Richards out in a not-so-polite way.
"What the hell just happened?" I looked at Lena for help, but she just about mirrored my reaction.
