The First Dance

253 Words
The orchestra began a slow waltz. Julian led Elena to the center of the floor, the crowd parting like the Red Sea. As he took her hand and placed his other on her back, the world around them seemed to vanish. There was only the scent of his cologne, the heat of his body, and the intensity of his gaze. "You’re a good dancer," Elena remarked, surprised by his grace. "I learned early on that movement is a form of strategy," Julian replied, his eyes locked on hers. "If you can control the rhythm, you can control the outcome." They moved in perfect synchronization, a display of unity that silenced the room. But beneath the surface, the tension was simmering. Elena could feel the strength in his arms, the underlying violence that he kept so carefully controlled. "What happens after the wedding, Julian?" she asked, her voice low. "When the Thornes are gone and the company is stable? Do we just... keep living this lie?" Julian spun her out and brought her back, his chest brushing against hers. "Who said it has to be a lie? You have the brains, I have the power. Together, we can build something that lasts longer than any revenge." For a moment, Elena allowed herself to believe it. The way he looked at her wasn't just about business; there was a hunger there that felt dangerously real. But then the music ended, and the Ice King’s mask snapped back into place.
