Forty-OneJohn straightened his leg to ease the cramp in his thigh and squeezed his eyes tight. He pressed the bridge of his nose hard between his thumb and forefinger to ease his brain fog and cursed silently. It was one o’clock in the morning and he and Seb had been keeping watch on Virgil Hale’s house all evening. It opened to a street at the front and a rough lane next to a children’s play area at the back, so was accessible from both sides. John was at the street side, masked by a large tree whose trunk hid his profile, keeping watch for any visitors or other activity.
