Didn't die? What a strange way of wording it, Aubrey thought. The two detectives sat across from her in the interrogation room. Detective Johnson Jackson, his real name, asked the questions while his partner, Detective Larry Hinds, took notes off to the side.
“What do you mean?” she asked, composed and determined to stay focused. She convinced herself that she would not ramble. “Charity didn't die. I carried her to the car. They took her back to the operating room on a stretcher.”
