Nicole placed her hand on Jack’s as he reached to open the door to the throne room. “Wait,” she said, anxiously moving to stand before him. “We need to talk.”
Jack searched her eyes and reached out to touch her. She pulled back. “What is it, Niki? What’s wrong?” he asked, stepping toward her.
She held out her hand to stop him, saying, “I have something to tell you and I need you to hear me out before you react.”
Jack stared at her in confusion. “Niki, whatever it is you can tell me.”
She nodded and took a deep breath. “You know how much I love Mikado. He’s like one of my own children. I would never do anything to hurt him.”
“Of course,” Jack agreed. “I feel the same way.”
