CABAL KNELT DOWN AND wrapped his arms around Sarah as she clung to her father’s body. Nicole and Jack stood in the doorway, speechless, trying to absorb everything that had happened.
Disappearing for a moment, Jack reappeared with one of the banners from the wall. Nicole helped Cabal pull Sarah to her feet. Jack draped the banner over the king as Cabal led Sarah from the chamber.
When they reached the doorway, Sarah stopped and spun around. “No,” she declared, pushingthe tears from her eyes with her hands. “This is the chamber you described, Cabal. My father came here to use the talisman that sealed off the city.” She glanced around, searching the floor.
A few feet to one side of her father’s body lay a metal orb. “That must be the talisman,” she whispered, pointing at the orb.
