As soon as Zheng Hai said this, everyone’s expressions changed slightly. After all, everyone had thoughts of being the boss. Apart from Lin Yue’s six friends, the others didn’t know his capabilities. Lin Yue hadn’t spoken much during the discussion, and most people hadn’t paid him much attention. As soon as the topic of choosing a chieftain came up, some among the nine newcomers began to stir. “Senior Sun Ling is definitely the most qualified to be the chieftain!” Suddenly, a sharp voice rang out. A scrawny, pointy-faced boy shouted excitedly, “Senior Sun Ling is the president of the Taekwondo Club. With him as chieftain, we’ll definitely hunt plenty of game!” “Monkey, don’t talk nonsense!” The tall boy sitting next to the scrawny one was Sun Ling himself. Although he said that, he couldn’t hide his arrogant expression. The words “I want to be the chieftain” were practically written on his face. Yang Qing glanced at him and couldn’t help snorting as she shook her head. “Taekwondo people might be okay for performances or brawls, but when it comes to real hunting, forget it.” “What did you say!” The boy called Monkey jumped up in anger, but Sun Ling grabbed him and pushed him back down. Sun Ling smiled at Yang Qing. “Miss, it seems you have quite a** (prejudice) against Taekwondo?” Yang Qing glanced at him indifferently. “I’m just stating the facts.” Sun Ling’s eyes gradually darkened as he stared at her for a long time without speaking. Seeing the tension, security guard Chu Yang immediately tried to mediate. “Sun Ling is the Taekwondo Club president, so he certainly has the strength to be chieftain. But since this concerns our survival, we should decide by vote.” “I think Brother Chu Yang should be the chieftain,” said the girl who had proposed “murder punishable by death,” Liu Ye. “Brother Chu Yang is the oldest here, and he used to be a soldier. He should have more survival experience than us.” As soon as Liu Ye spoke, several people immediately echoed in agreement. Sun Ling, standing nearby, grew even darker. Chu Yang was stunned, then waved his hands repeatedly. “No, no, no. I was a soldier, but I never did any**** (survival) training. I don’t know anything about wilderness survival. Besides, I’m only a year or two older than you. I haven’t studied much. No, no, Sun Ling is more suitable.” Hearing this, Sun Ling’s expression softened slightly. He cleared his throat. “Everyone, I may not have great skills, but I have strength. I promise that if I become chieftain, I will secure more food for everyone.” “That’s right, that’s right! Senior Sun Ling is amazing!” Monkey yelped in his shrill voice. “Oh my, if you’re given a little face, you really think you’re something special,” said Lin Yue’s roommate Zhao Longtao, shaking his head helplessly. “Everyone has strength. The key is to have this—” He pointed to his head. Sun Ling’s face flushed with anger. He glared at Zhao Longtao. “What do you mean?” “Saying you have no brains, of course!” Yang Qing tore off a piece of wolf meat and said as she ate. *Thud!* Sun Ling kicked the roasting wolf meat off the fire, glaring furiously at Zhao Longtao and Yang Qing. “Do you believe I’ll kill you?” This action frightened many people. They looked up at him in silence. Lin Yue had been about to cut a piece of meat, but Sun Ling’s kick stopped his knife hand in mid-air. The next second, he was gone. In an instant, Lin Yue appeared behind Sun Ling, knife at his throat, and said coldly, “Do you believe I’ll kill you right now?” Lin Yue’s sudden outburst startled everyone again—both by his incredible speed and by the act itself. “Y-you… what are you doing? Don’t be reckless!” With the knife at his throat, Sun Ling immediately panicked. His lips turned white as he stuttered, “Let’s talk calmly!” “So you know how to talk calmly.” Lin Yue snorted, kicked him to the ground, and said, “With that little ambition, you want to be chieftain? A chieftain helps everyone get food, not destroy it!” He then rehung the wolf meat over the fire and carefully brushed off the sand it had picked up. Zheng Hai quickly helped him clean the meat. The others exchanged glances. Some immediately helped Lin Yue; some remained silent; others looked at Sun Ling with sarcasm, occasionally muttering about his overestimation of himself. Sun Ling’s face was bright red with anger. With a heavy snort, he threw down his hand and walked out of the cave. Monkey immediately followed. Everyone watched them leave in silence. After Sun Ling left, no one mentioned the topic of a chieftain again. The cave fell into silence, broken only by Lin Yue fiddling with the roasting meat. Soon, he tore off pieces of meat and handed them to everyone with a smile. “It’s a little sandy, but I brushed it off. Still edible!” They took the meat instinctively, mumbling thanks but nothing more. Before, they would have joked with Lin Yue if they saw him smiling. But after seeing his earlier action, many couldn’t help feeling a bit of fear, even though they knew he wouldn’t hurt them. Now, in their hearts, they had subconsciously pushed Lin Yue to the position of chieftain. But none dared to speak up—first, because the earlier argument over leadership had caused friction, and discussing it again seemed inappropriate; second, because they couldn’t read Lin Yue’s character or true abilities, so they wisely chose to stay silent. Lin Yue knew what they were thinking but said nothing. He just kept handing out roasted meat. His sudden outburst wasn’t just because he couldn’t stand Sun Ling’s arrogance—it was more about establishing authority. Wanting to be chieftain wasn’t just a matter of saying “I want to” and having everyone agree. In this unstable situation, democracy simply wouldn’t work. So Lin Yue had to slowly build his prestige, because here, the chieftain was forged through combat. The only ones who weren’t afraid of Lin Yue were his six roommates and friends. They had already witnessed his skill in killing the giant wolf, so his threatening Sun Ling with a knife didn’t surprise them. They had expected it. A king would never tolerate a brat making a scene in his presence. In fact, Zheng Hai had brought up the topic of choosing a chieftain precisely because he understood Lin Yue’s intentions. Chu Yang, trying to break the awkward silence, stared at the small knife in Lin Yue’s hand. “By the way, Lin Yue, where did you get these knives? I noticed you all seem to have one. There shouldn’t be any weapons right after crossing over.” Lin Yue smiled and handed him a piece of wolf meat. “It was pure luck. I happened to be in a supermarket just before the crossing, grabbing a bundle of knives, and then we crossed. There were ten knives in the bundle. We each took one. Here, I have a few left—I’ll give one to you.” He took a knife from his waist pouch and handed it to Chu Yang. The excuse sounded ridiculous, but it was workable. No one felt anything was off. However, seeing Lin Yue give away a knife, their eyes widened a bit. In this situation, having a knife for self-defense was far better than none. They wanted one too, but didn’t dare ask, as the knives were Lin Yue’s personal property. Chu Yang hesitated, then pushed Lin Yue’s hand away. He raised his nightstick. “Better give it to someone else. This nightstick is enough for me.” Since Chu Yang refused, Lin Yue didn’t insist. He turned to the others. “Alright, since we don’t have enough knives for everyone, I’ll make these few public property, belonging to everyone. Later, when we go hunting or something, if anyone needs one, they can come to me for it, okay?” Although they all wanted a knife, they couldn’t complain. Lin Yue’s arrangement was fair enough, so they nodded in agreement. After eating, everyone found places in the cave to lie down and rest, or gathered in small groups to chat. Lin Yue also sat with his friends. By now, they had stopped asking how he could predict the Great Crossing. Instead, they asked more about this world’s conditions. Lin Yue was touched by his friends’ change in attitude. Having gone through ten years of life-and-death struggles in his past life, he treasured every friendship dearly. Their willingness to understand meant they truly cared for him. As for the matter of rebirth, Lin Yue really didn’t want to talk about it. It touched on his deepest privacy. While the people in the cave rested, Sun Ling and Monkey, having left the group, walked further away from the cave, heading east. “Senior, where are we going?” Monkey nervously looked around, afraid of any wild beasts suddenly pouncing. Sun Ling, his face dark, walked quickly and said in a low voice, “To find others.” “Find others?” Monkey was shocked. He quickly caught up to Sun Ling. “Really, senior? Are we leaving them to find other people?” “What else?” Sun Ling glared at him. “Do you think they’ll take us back after what happened? Rather than being disliked there, we might as well find others.” “But others might not accept us either. And they have meat. If we join someone else, we might go hungry.” Sun Ling stopped abruptly and gave a cold, sinister smile. “Don’t worry, Monkey. We’ll be accepted, and we’ll have meat.” Monkey was taken aback. He looked up at Sun Ling’s face. “Senior, you mean…” Sun Ling’s eyes flashed with ruthlessness. He said coldly, “Tell those people that the group over there has food. I guarantee they’ll be interested.” --- ********,******。**
