Chapter 10: Bridging the Divide

785 Words
The following week unfolded with a surprising shift in dynamics at The Lost Universities. The previous combat trials had left everyone in high spirits, but it had also highlighted some tensions between teams. Today was intended as a normal day, with no classes or battles scheduled—just a chance to relax and build new friendships. Carfel, Clint, Jaype, Matthew, and Mark were enjoying a rare moment of downtime. They had just finished a group study session in the common room, and the atmosphere was more relaxed than usual. “Good job today, everyone,” Jaype said, his usual playful demeanor softened. “We really pulled it together out there.” Matthew nodded, his calm presence balancing the group’s energy. “It was a tough match, but we made it through.” Clint, usually reserved, looked around and gave a rare smile. “Yeah, we did well. Let’s make sure we keep this up.” Just as the group was starting to unwind, there was a knock on the door. Professor Hartley’s voice followed. “I’ve arranged for Team Seven to join you for lunch. It’s a chance for everyone to get to know each other better after the competition.” The door opened, and Seven, Mithzie, Aira, Maui, and Aran walked in. Their expressions were friendly, if a bit cautious. Seven took the lead, his lightning-speed presence commanding attention. “Hey, everyone. We thought it’d be nice to hang out and clear the air.” Clint raised an eyebrow but nodded. “Sure, why not. We could all use a break from the usual routine.” The two teams moved to the dining area, where a spread of food was laid out. As they sat down, the initial awkwardness began to dissipate. Maui, who had previously used his teleportation to disrupt their tactics, was now seated next to Carfel. “Hey, Carfel. That was some impressive magic you pulled off in the last match.” Carfel smiled, appreciating the compliment. “Thanks, Maui. It was a tough battle, but we all managed well.” Mithzie, the weapon summoner, chimed in with a grin. “I have to admit, your team’s coordination was impressive. I didn’t expect such a well-rounded approach.” Jaype, who had been quiet for a moment, leaned in. “We’re all just getting used to each other’s strengths. It’s good to know we can count on each other in a pinch.” Aira, ever the healer, nodded in agreement. “Yes, and it’s important to remember that we’re all here for the same reason. To improve and grow our abilities.” As lunch continued, conversations flowed more naturally. The teams shared stories about their backgrounds, their goals, and the challenges they had faced. Carfel and Aira, in particular, found common ground in their experiences and aspirations. “Have you found any strategies that work well with your abilities?” Carfel asked Aira, genuinely interested in her insights. Aira smiled. “It’s all about balance. Healing can only do so much without a strong defense. You have to know when to heal and when to fight.” Meanwhile, Clint and Seven engaged in a friendly discussion about their combat styles. Seven explained his approach to summoning golems and using his speed, while Clint shared his techniques for managing both ice and fire. “Your fireballs were intense,” Seven said with a nod. “But I noticed you control both elements well.” “Thanks,” Clint replied. “It’s about balance. Ice and fire are opposites, but they complement each other in combat.” As the meal wound down, Professor Hartley returned to check in on the gathering. “I’m glad to see everyone getting along. Remember, collaboration and understanding are key to your success here.” The two teams left the dining area with a new sense of camaraderie. Although they were competitors, the shared experience of the combat trials had forged a bond between them. Carfel and her teammates felt more at ease, having bridged the gap with Team Seven. As Carfel walked back to her room with Jaype and Matthew, she reflected on the day’s events. The connections she had made with Team Seven were promising, and she felt a sense of unity growing among the students. The challenges ahead were still formidable, but with newfound friendships and a deeper understanding of each other, the journey at The Lost Universities seemed a little less daunting. The day ended on a hopeful note. Carfel, feeling more confident in her place at the university, looked forward to the adventures and challenges that lay ahead, knowing that she was no longer alone in navigating the complex world of The Lost Universities.
