Chapter 4: The Revelation

820 Words
The days continued to blend together for Carfel as she adjusted to life at The Lost Universities. Her days were filled with lectures and studying, her nights spent exploring the library’s ancient texts in search of clues about the university’s hidden powers. Despite her curiosity, she was still unaware of her own latent abilities. One afternoon, the students of Class A gathered in their lecture hall for a special briefing with their adviser, Professor Hartley. The atmosphere in the room was tense, and Carfel could sense that something significant was about to be revealed. Professor Hartley stood at the front of the room, his usually warm demeanor replaced by a serious expression. “Class A,” he began, “today we will discuss an important aspect of your education here at The Lost Universities. It concerns the rules and responsibilities associated with the powers you will learn to wield.” A murmur of anticipation swept through the room. Carfel listened intently, trying to glean any hints about the mysterious powers that everyone seemed to be discussing. “Firstly,” Professor Hartley continued, “the knowledge and abilities you gain here are bound by a strict code of secrecy. The powers you possess are not to be disclosed outside these walls. The consequences of breaking this code are severe and can jeopardize not only your own safety but also the integrity of the university.” Carfel’s eyes widened. She had heard rumors about the university’s enigmatic nature, but hearing it stated so explicitly was startling. The idea of hidden powers and the importance of secrecy was both thrilling and intimidating. Professor Hartley went on, “Each of you has been chosen for Class A because of your unique abilities. Some of you have elemental powers—like ice and fire, thunder, air, and water—while others possess more subtle talents such as telekinesis and control over fire. It’s crucial to understand that while these powers can be extraordinary, they also come with great responsibility.” The room was filled with a mix of excitement and apprehension. Carfel glanced around, noting the varied reactions of her classmates. Clint, who had previously seemed aloof, looked both confident and eager. His powers of ice and fire were well known, and he exuded an air of authority. Mark, Jaype, and Matthew also displayed a sense of readiness. Mark had the power of thunder, Jaype could control the air, and Matthew wielded water. As Professor Hartley detailed the training regimen, Carfel felt a pang of anxiety. The realization that her classmates were already aware of their powers and that she was still unaware of her own made her feel like an outsider. “Today, we will begin practical training,” Professor Hartley said. “You will each participate in exercises designed to help you master your abilities. For those who are still discovering their powers, like Carfel, I encourage you to study the texts in the library. Knowledge is the key to unlocking your potential.” Carfel nodded, feeling a mixture of relief and frustration. While she was eager to learn about her own abilities, it seemed that she would need to rely on research for now. Her classmates, however, were already getting into their training sessions. Clint and his friends practiced their elemental abilities with impressive skill. Clint demonstrated his control over both ice and fire, manipulating the elements with fluid ease. Mark called forth lightning bolts, while Jaype created powerful gusts of wind, and Matthew commanded streams of water. The other students, though less advanced, showed promising potential. Some displayed telekinesis, moving objects with their minds, while others experimented with basic fire control. The atmosphere was electric with the excitement of discovery and the thrill of mastering new skills. Carfel, meanwhile, retreated to the library to immerse herself in books about magical powers and their applications. She poured over ancient texts and mystical diagrams, hoping to find clues that would help her understand her own abilities. As she read, she couldn’t shake the feeling that something was missing. The texts spoke of incredible feats and legendary powers, but they seemed distant and abstract compared to the tangible reality of her classmates’ training. Carfel was determined to uncover her own potential, but the path to doing so remained shrouded in mystery. The day’s training session ended, and Carfel left the library with a head full of knowledge and a heart full of determination. She was ready to face the challenges ahead, eager to discover what hidden talents she might possess and how they would fit into the world of The Lost Universities. As she walked back to her dorm, Carfel reflected on the revelations of the day. The university was a place of wonder and secrets, and she was only beginning to scratch the surface of its enigmatic depths. With each passing day, she moved closer to unlocking the mysteries that lay before her.
