The Wolf Beneath Her Skin

222 Words
The rain fell hard over the human village of Blackridge. Elara Vale stood beneath the bakery awning, watching the storm flood the empty streets. To everyone around her, she was simply the quiet baker’s assistant who preferred silence over conversation. No one knew she had once been born into one of the strongest werewolf bloodlines in history. No one knew her wolf still lived beneath her skin. And no one knew that every full moon hurt like hell because she forced herself not to shift. Hiding a wolf for years came with consequences. Pain. Weakness. Loneliness. But it was better than being hunted. Her parents had been legendary warriors feared by every Alpha pack. They protected weaker wolves and refused to bow to corrupt Alphas drunk on power. That became their death sentence. One night, the Alphas united. They burned the Vale estate. They slaughtered everyone. Except Elara. She still remembered her mother shoving her into a hidden tunnel while flames swallowed their home. “Run,” her mother cried. “I don’t want to leave you!” “You survive, Elara. Promise me!” Then came the screams. Elara never saw them again. Now years later, she lived among humans pretending she was one of them. But destiny was already walking toward her. And it wore the face of a stranger.
