the betrayal within

THE BILLIONAIRE Episode 6: The Betrayal Within Adrian Blackwood stood motionless in the darkness beneath the old Blackwood Hotel. The gunshot still echoed in his mind. Daniel was gone. Marcus was gone. And somewhere outside that underground room, someone was watching him. Adrian tightened his grip around the golden key. His father's words kept repeating in his head. The wolf is inside. For years, Adrian had believed his father, Richard Blackwood, was dead. Then he had discovered the impossible. Richard was alive. And Thomas Carter, Emily's father, who everyone believed had died years ago, might also still be alive. Nothing in Adrian's life was what it seemed. Emily stepped closer. "Adrian." He looked at her. "Are you all right?" "No." His answer was quiet. "But I'm going to find the truth." Emily reached for his hand. "Then we find it together." Adrian looked down at their joined hands. For the first time that night, the fear inside him became slightly weaker. Emily wasn't leaving. She had every reason to run. But she stayed. A sudden sound came from behind them. They turned. A metal door slowly opened. Adrian raised his gun. "Who's there?" A familiar voice answered. "Put the gun down, Adrian." Adrian froze. Richard Blackwood stepped into the dim light. His father. Alive. Again. Adrian stared at him with anger and disbelief. "You knew about this place." Richard nodded. "I built it." "You lied to me." "I was trying to protect you." "From who?" Richard's expression changed. "From your family." Emily stepped forward. "What do you mean?" Richard looked at her. "Your father is alive too." Emily's face went pale. "What?" "Thomas Carter survived." Emily covered her mouth. For years, she had mourned her father. She had believed he was dead. "Where is he?" Richard hesitated. "He's being held somewhere." "By the Black Crown?" Richard nodded. Adrian's eyes narrowed. "Who are they?" Richard walked toward an old table and placed a photograph on it. There were six men standing together. Adrian recognized three immediately. Richard. Thomas. And another man whose face had been partly hidden. "These six men created the Black Crown," Richard said. Adrian studied the photograph. "Who are the others?" "One of them betrayed us." "Who?" Richard looked directly at Adrian. "I don't know." Adrian stared at him. "You're telling me you don't know?" "I know one thing." Richard pointed to the photograph. "The person who betrayed us is a Blackwood." Silence filled the room. Emily looked at Adrian. Adrian felt his stomach tighten. "Who in my family?" Richard didn't answer. Instead, he walked to the wall. He pressed his hand against a hidden panel. A section of the wall opened. Inside was a computer. Richard switched it on. A video appeared. Thomas Carter was sitting in a chair. His face was bruised. Emily gasped. "Dad!" Thomas looked directly into the camera. "Emily, if you're watching this, I'm sorry." The recording continued. "I tried to expose them." Thomas took a breath. "They discovered what I had found." Adrian moved closer to the screen. "What did you find?" Thomas answered as if he could hear him. "The money was never the real secret." The video suddenly distorted. Thomas's voice became broken. "The real secret is..." The screen went black. Emily stared at it. "What secret?" Richard looked at Adrian. "The secret that destroyed both our families." Suddenly, the computer displayed a single message. YOU HAVE THREE HOURS. Then another appeared. BRING THE GOLDEN KEY. Adrian stepped backward. "They know we're here." Richard nodded. "They've been watching us from the beginning." Emily looked frightened. "What happens in three hours?" A phone began ringing. Nobody moved. It rang again. Adrian slowly picked it up. "Hello?" A distorted voice answered. "You finally found your father." Adrian's eyes hardened. "Who are you?" "You don't need to know my name." "Where is Thomas Carter?" "Alive." "Put him on." A brief silence followed. Then Adrian heard Emily's father's voice. "Emily?" Emily grabbed the phone. "Dad!" "I'm sorry." "Dad, where are you?" "I don't know." Thomas sounded terrified. "But listen to me. Don't trust..." The call suddenly ended. Emily began crying. Adrian held her. "I'll bring him home." She looked at him. "You promise?" "I promise." Richard watched them silently. Then he noticed something on the floor. A small black card. He picked it up. On it was a silver crown. Richard's face changed. "The Black Crown." Adrian took the card. There was a number written on the back. 317. Adrian remembered immediately. Hotel Room 317. The same room where he had found the photograph proving his father was alive. "The room," Adrian said. Richard nodded. "They want us to go back." Emily wiped her tears. "Then we go." Richard shook his head. "No." Adrian looked at him. "I'm going." "So am I," Emily said. Richard's voice became serious. "If you go there, you may not come back." Adrian stared at him. "People have already died because of this." He looked at Emily. "I'm not running." Three hours later, Adrian, Emily, and Richard returned to the hotel. Room 317 was empty. Too empty. Adrian entered first. Nothing moved. Emily followed. Richard remained near the door. Then the lights switched on. A projector came alive. A video appeared on the wall. It showed Adrian as a child. He was standing beside his father. Then the image changed. Adrian saw another child. A boy. Standing beside Richard. Adrian frowned. "Who is that?" Richard said nothing. The boy turned toward the camera. Adrian stared. He recognized the face. It was Victor. His older cousin. But Victor had supposedly left the country years ago. The video ended. A message appeared. FAMILY IS THE MOST DANGEROUS ENEMY. Adrian slowly turned toward Richard. "You knew." Richard looked down. "I thought he was dead." A voice came from the hallway. "That's what I wanted you to believe." Adrian raised his gun. Emily froze. Footsteps approached. Someone stopped outside the door. Then the handle slowly turned. The door opened. A tall man stepped inside. He wore a black suit. His face was calm. His eyes were cold. Adrian stared at him. "Victor." Victor smiled. "Hello, Adrian." Richard stepped forward. "You." Victor looked at him. "Father." Emily looked between them in confusion. Adrian's voice became cold. "You're behind all of this." Victor smiled. "Not all of it." He looked at Emily. "Some of it was your father." Emily's eyes widened. "My father?" Victor stepped closer. "Thomas Carter didn't die." Adrian tightened his grip on his gun. "What do you want?" Victor's smile disappeared. "The money your father hid." Adrian shook his head. "You'll never get it." Victor looked at the golden key in Adrian's hand. "Oh, I already have the location." He pointed toward Adrian. "I just need you to open the door." Suddenly, the room went dark. A gunshot exploded. Emily screamed. When the lights came back on, Victor was gone. Richard was on the floor. And Adrian's golden key had disappeared. Adrian rushed to his father. "Father!" Richard opened his eyes. His voice was barely audible. "Adrian..." "Where is the key?" Richard looked toward the open window. "Don't chase Victor." "Why?" Richard grabbed Adrian's arm. "Because Victor isn't the leader." Adrian froze. Richard whispered four words. "There's someone above him." Then Richard passed out. Adrian looked at Emily. The mystery had just become even bigger. The billionaire had spent his entire life believing his enemies were outside his family. Now he understood the truth. The most dangerous enemy had always been inside. And somewhere in the darkness, the real mastermind was waiting. To be continued...
