13: Alpha Sebastian
Kai's POV
The rest of the meeting went fairly smoothly from there. Once the news of the Prophecy and Freya and I's mate bond had been settled, we moved into typical Alpha meeting territory. Alpha Rowan had noticed a spike in aggressive rogue activity in Black Diamond Lake, and Alpha Xavier corroborated his story, saying that he'd seen an uprising in rogue attacks, as well. We hadn't dealt with much rogue activity in Silver Mountain, but we were a bit harder to attack than some of the other packs, considering that we were shielded by a mountain. Our space wasn't as open as the other packs.
Freya shined in the meeting. She thought that the rogue attacks could be connected with Romulus, and we should keep an eye out to see if there was a pattern. Even Alpha Rowan had to admit that he was impressed with how she handled herself. I was beaming with pride. I wouldn't expect anything less of my Luna.
Once the meeting was over, I leaned over to give her a kiss on the cheek. "You were absolutely brilliant," I said, grinning. "I'm not going to a single Alpha meeting without you by my side again."
Freya grinned. "Who knows, maybe I'll be the one running the meetings eventually."
Sergei laughed. "Oh Goddess, I would kill to see that. You'd give Alpha Rowan a heart attack!"
Unfortunately, Sergei forgot to control his volume, and that got him a growl from Alpha Rowan.
Sergei held up his hands in self-defense. "I'm just kidding, Alpha Rowan!" He said, his face flushing red. "I wouldn't wish that on your pack and your Luna and daughters."
Alpha Rowan rolled his eyes. He'd never been too fond of Sergei. Especially since he'd caught Sergei with his eldest daughter, and they weren't mates. Alpha Rowan was even more old school in believing that everyone should wait for their fated mate. He didn't go out of his way to enforce it with his daughters, but he'd been none to pleased with her or Sergei.
"You know, Sergei, one of these days, he's actually going to kick your ass, and no one will be able to say that you didn't deserve it." A voice said, and I turned to see Sebastian standing behind me, a grin on his face. "Alpha Rowan's an old guy, but he's still a brilliant fighter."
That was true. None of us had managed to beat him in a sparing match.
I leaned to give Sebastian a hug. "You know Sergei," I said, turning to grin at my Beta. "He doesn't know what a filter is."
Sergei shrugged, laughing it off. "I say what I say," he said.
Sebastian returned the hug, clapping me on the back before turning to Freya. "Luna Freya," he said, kissing her hand. "As one of Kai's oldest friends, I can't be happier that he's finally found his mate, and it's someone as amazing as you."
Freya nodded, grinning at him. "Thank you, Alpha Sebastian," she said. "And what about you? Any luck finding Crescent Woods' Luna?"
Sebastasian gave her a shy grin. Even since he'd turned eighteen, Sebastian had been looking for his Luna. Sergei and I even joked when we were younger that he was going to end up stealing my Gamma, Zach, as his Luna, and I'd have to scramble to find another Gamma. They'd been really close when we were growing up, and Sergei and I knew that there was definitely a mutual crush there. But sadly, when they turned eighteen, the mate bond just wasn't there. Zach wouldn't admit it, but he was crushed. He still hadn't found his mate, either.
Really, anyone would be lucky to have Sebastian. He was tall and lean, with messy blonde hair and hazel eyes. From my knowledge, he had no shortage of unmated wolves throwing themselves at him, but like Zach, he was saving himself for his mate.
Sebastian shook his head. "Sadly, my future Luna isn't at Forest Moon," he said. "I'm dismayed that, at twenty-five, I still haven't found my mate, but I'm not giving up hope. I'll keep looking until I find them."
Freya gave him a sympathetic look. "I'm sorry," she said, "I know that for an Alpha, going so long without a Luna must be frustrating."
Sebastian chuckled. "Maybe I'll be the world's first bachelor Alpha."
Sergei let out a howl. "Man, that'd be awesome. You could just have a constant party. Not that having a Luna is a bad thing. I just...I don't know. I have a very hard time seeing myself mated."
Freya rolled her eyes. "I bet that you're going to be mated within the next four months, and as soon as you do meet your mate, you're going to turn into the most lovesick pupp."
Sergei grinned. "You are so on, Luna."
Sebastian laughed. "Never change, Sergei," he said. He then turned to look at me, grinning. "With Silver Mountain having found its Luna, when will we have a Luna ceremony?"
I squeezed Freya's hand. "I'm ready to give Freya her ceremony now, but that's up to my Luna."
Freya pondered the notion for a moment. "Probably within the next couple of weeks? I'm eager to get started, but I want to make myself familiar with Silver Mountain first."
Sebastian nodded. "That makes sense." His voice then dropped an octave. "So," he said, his voice almost a hushed whisper. "What do you really think of this whole Romulus and past lives thing?"
I glanced over at Freya. I had made my peace with Remus, but I knew that she was still dealing with more memories, and as we'd been told, Freya and her wolf, Diana, had a whole mess of powers that they would be able to come into now that we'd accepted, marked, and mated each other.
Freya sighed, squeezing my hand. "It's a lot to take in, Alpha Sebastian," she said, glancing at me. "I'll be honest, I was terrified. I almost rejected Kai, if I'm being honest."
That got a gasp from Sergei, as I had failed to tell him that detail. I didn't want to expose something that I knew that Freya felt vulnerable about without her permission.
Freya looked down at the ground, and then back at me. "I was scared," she said, her cheeks flushing a bit."I am ashamed to admit that I let my fear get the best of me. I had been having dreams of my past life in Neoma. In those dreams, I had been going to meet, Kai - Remus, my mate, and finding him dead. And learning everything about Romulus and his need to possess me, Neoma, to the point where he'd kill my mate, I was terrified that I'd be responsible for his death in this life, too."
Sebastian looked at her, giving her an understanding smile. "I guess I can understand that," he said. "I'm glad you didn't reject him. Kai's a great guy. All of the Silver Mountain ranked males are. I'm glad to call them friends and allies."
Freya leaned into me a little bit. "Kai never doubted our bond for a second," she said. "He was very sure of what we shared, and didn't let the whole past life thing dicate his actions. He accepted me for everything when I was considering rejection, and I knew right there and then, this was the mate for me. I'm meant to spend the rest of my life with this man. I'm meant to be his Luna, and together, we'll lead Silver Mountain with love, respect, and pride."
I kissed the top of her head. "That's my Luna," I said, a feeling of pride swelling throughout my entire body.
Sebastian grinned at us. "That's so awesome," he said. "Again, I'm really happy for you. When are you planning on heading back up to Silver Mountain?"
"I believe the plan is to leave this afternoon?" I asked Freya.
Freya nodded. "I finished packing last night, even though you were determined to distract me."
I shrugged, winking at her. "I can't help it if I have to show my Luna all of the ways she's supposed to be properly worshipped."
Behind me, Sergei gagged jokingly. "I could've lived without knowing that."
I turned my head to him, raising an eyebrow. "After all of the things about your s*x life, you're getting off easy."
Sebastian laughed. "Man, you've got to find your mate, Sergei."
Freya shook her head. "I can tell that I'm going to have my hands full with him, so yes, I'd love to have him find his mate. But I'm looking forward to finally meeting everyone at Silver Mountain. I've always wanted to see it. Darius and Dad have told me nothing but good things about the pack and territory."
Sebastian nodded. "Well, as Silver Moutain's closest allies, I'm looking forward to working with you, Luna Freya. And I look forward to attending the Luna Ceremony."
