10: Pillow Talk

Freya's POV

After several rounds of "worshipping", I had finally managed to get most of my packing done. Well, when Kai wasn't distracting me. Granted, there was plenty of worshipping started by me, too. I couldn't get enough of this man, and his amazing body, and I had a feeling that when we got to Silver Mountain, it was only going to get better from there. We'd decided to spend the night in Kai's guestroom, as it had a king-sized bed that we could use to our advantage.

Though the larger bed meant plenty of room for us to spread out, I just wanted to be close to him. I curled up next to Kai in bed, resting my head on his muscular chest. I could hear his heartbeat in my ear, and I shut my eyes, sighing softly. I could fall asleep to that sound every night. He had an arm wrapped around me, pulling me as close to him as possible. His fingers found a loose strand of my hair that found its way out of my hair wrap, playing with it gently. Usually, I didn't like anyone playing with my hair, but for him, I could make an exception.

From my spot on his chest, I tilted my head to look up at him, and he smiled down at me with that smile that made my heart melt. "So,"I said, giving him a grin. "How many crazy exes am I going to have to fight off when we go to Silver Mountain tomorrow after the Alpha meeting?"

Kai laughed heartily, his chest shaking a bit. It made my head bounce a bit, but I didn't mind it at all. "Goddess, there'll be none of that," he said, placing his free hand on his temples. "Luckily, most of my pack knew that I was waiting for my chosen mate. I didn't really date anyone back at Silver Mountain, just a few flings here and there. And I made certain that everyone I slept with knew that it was just a one-time thing, and I was waiting for my chosen mate to make whoever they were my Luna. And I never took anyone to my room. I always went to wherever they were staying. My bedroom is to be shared with my mate. That's our space, where we'd sleep together, make love, and if we were lucky, make our pups."

I chuckled at that. "Wanting pups already, Alpha Kai?" I teased him. "I don't know about that. We've just mated, you want to jump right into making pups?"

That got another chuckle from Kai, and he winked down at me. "I'll put as many pups in you as you'll let me, Freya. However, first, I want to get to enjoy you and our time together as much as I can before I think of bringing pups into this world."

I moved slightly, kissing his neck. "Smart man," I said, "I want pups someday, but for right now, I'm just happy to have you all to myself."

His fingers continued to play with my loose curls. "What about you?" he asked, "Are there any exes I have to worry about coming after me for taking you from Forest Moon?"

"Nah," I said, panting his chest. "Like you, I never really dated anyone, either, just a few flings here and there. And once I started having the past life dreams that I know are now something that actually happened, I didn't really have as many flings. I didn't like the idea of waking up next to someone that was just a one night thing after having a nightmare like that."

Kai placed his thumb under my chin, tilting my head up to look at him. "Well, you have me now," he said. "In this life. I'm marked as yours, and you're marked as mine. I'm not going anywhere, no matter what some crazy ancient werewolf thinks."

I sighed, shutting my eyes briefly at his touch, reveling in those wonderful mate bond sparks traveling down and throughout my body. "I'm still wrapping my head around that we're part of some ancient prophecy. And you know, the whole rebirth thing."

Kai trailed his thumb along my chin, massaging the skin gently. "I know," he said, kissing the top of my head. "It's a lot to take in, But you know, the whole rebirth and past life thing, it doesn't matter to me. I know, even if reincarnation wasn't involved, I'd still be your destined mate. I know you're the reborn daughter of the Moon Goddess herself. But that doesn't matter to me. I don't think it mattered to Remus, either, in our first life. You're just Freya, the woman that I was always destined to be with, my mate. And no matter what happens, I know we'll face it and overcome it, together."

I chuckled softly at him. "You always know exactly what to say, don't you?"

That got a chuckle from Kai. "I try," he said. "I just know that this can't be easy for you especially, and as your mate, I'm going to do everything I can to help put you at ease."

I snuggled against him. "Goddess, I feel so lucky," I said. "I'd always wondered what my mate would be like, but I couldn't imagine that I would get so fortunate with you."

He pulled me even closer to him. "I feel the same," he said, "No matter what, Freya, I'll always be here to support and love you. You're my mate, my Luna, prophecy and reincarnation or not, and that's what's the most important thing taro me."

It was all I could do to just mutter a simple "mmhmm" as I felt my eyelids grow heavy, and I drifted to sleep with my head on his chest, letting the darkness overtake me.

I couldn't believe what I was seeing. Standing in front of me was the most handsome man I had ever seen. He had dark olive skin, thick curly black hair, and hazel eyes that I could get lost in for days. I barely noticed the man next to him, though he looked very similar to him. Were they twins, like Anatole and I were, perhaps?

They had both been wolves in front of me, then shifted into the two muscular men that I saw before me. They could shift...like me. Were these the werewolves my mother had been talking about, the humans that she was going to bless with a gift like mine?

All I knew was that I couldn't keep my eyes off the man, and my heart was pounding in my chest like never before. My cheeks grew flushed, and Diana was going crazy in my head, screaming something about a "mate". I wasn't quite sure what she meant by that, but something told me that it was a good thing. A very good thing.

I moved closer to the two men, my eyes fixated on the man on the left. He was staring at me, an almost hungry look in his eyes. But there was something softer to it, too. He smiled as I came closer.

"Who are you?" I asked, my voice full of curiosity. I hadn't interacted with a lot of mortals before. I mostly stayed in my mother's kingdom. Anatole was the one who spent most of his time among mortals. Though today, I couldn't stay away, and Dinana had been begging for us to go to Earth to run. Now, it seemed as if I knew why.

He gave me a soft smile. "I'm Remus," he said.

Remus. I loved that name. It sounded wonderful, and I wanted to say it until I got tired of saying it. Though something told me that I'd never tire of saying his name.

"Remus," I said, the name rolling off my tongue. "I'm-"

The man next to Remus stepped forward, cutting me off. "You're Neoma," he said, "Daughter of the Moon Goddess herself, Selene. The likeness on the temples don't do your beauty justice." He grinned, an almost hungry look in his eyes, and I couldn't help but shudder. There was a look in his eyes that I was quite comfortable with. Like he wanted to possess me. "I'm Romulus," he continued. "Older twin brother of Remus, and the first werewolf blessed by Selene."

I awoke with a start. I panted, feeling disoriented as I looked around the room. I was still in Kai's arms, and he was sleeping soundly next to me. I wondered if he was having the same dream as me, or if he was having a different one. I nuzzled next to him, readjusting myself. That was different. I'd never dreamed of Neoma's first meeting with Remus before. I would never have guessed that Romulus was at that first meeting. And like Neoma, I couldn't help but feel off-put by him. The thought that he was apparently still out there, searching for me was enough to make my stomach turn.

I shook it off, sleep once again overtaking me. I had plenty of time to worry about Romulus. I had Kai, and like he said, we would face everything together, and that put me at ease, even with dealing with these pesky past life dreams.
