Chapitre X: Masquerade Ball Alannah's Point of View : "What happened?!" Luke opened his mouth when Raven and I arrived as I helped him walk. "Oh my gosh! Couz, you're getting pale!" I turned to Rave at what Mary said, and he was already pale. "I'm okay, don't tell my mother, she might just get worried, and don't take me to the clinic, it's just a scratch." There is a trace of pain in him, but he is still stubborn. "Are you nuts! What scratch! You lost a lot of blood!" Spence answered him. "What now?" Bri asked. "Let's take him to the clinic." Alex suggested. "No! Just go to the nearest hospital, the events might be canceled because of me." He smiled at us. We just held our breath and took a taxi. "Who did this?" Luke asked as soon as we entered his room. He had just been treated. "That guy." He didn't feel like answering. "Does he have a reason?" Daph. "He's just playing around, be careful, especially at night time." he answered. "I'm sorry Rave! It's my fault." I'm guilty of him. Why am I so weak? "No! It's our fault we just left you alone." The girls answered. I told them what happened while waiting for Raven's treatment to finish. "Don't blame yourselves, it happened and there's nothing we can do." They were all silent. "That person is at fault." He said seriously, I still have a part in what happened to him. We stayed in Raven's room all night. He wanted us to go home, but we wanted to stay to watch over him, so he couldn't do anything else. We teased, fooled around and whatever else we did to temporarily forget our thoughts. It was early in the morning when Raven got discharged, he insisted to go out that maybe his mom would notice and he said he was OK, even though he is told to rest first. Raven told us to just keep it a secret. He acted normal even though we knew it still hurt because his wound was quite deep, he was really stubborn. When I got home, my body was already very drained. We didn't sleep earlier. Maybe there's nothing wrong if I don't go to school now, right? There is no class. I still can't sleep thinking about that man, he's so mysterious and dangerous. It's late afternoon when I wake up, and I'm so hungry I haven't even had breakfast or lunch yet. I went to the university because they said they would go at night for the event. "ROUND 2 PLEASE! LOOK AT HIS ABS!" Bri, who was next to me shouted. She is overthrilled. "WOOOH SEXY!" When Alex whistled, he received an elbow from Spence and I laughed at that. "No, Henry should be the winner!" Bri grumbled as we waited in the parking lot. "Duh, he's so stupid! Excuse me, Mark deserves it! He's also smart at Q&A." Mary said to her and stuck her tongue out. "How dare you say he's stupid! Take back what you said to him!" And the two started arguing. The boys are quiet and seem irritated by the actions of the two. "The winners for the female category haven't even been announced yet, let's go." Alex grumbled. "Are you stupid? Maybe something bad will happen to us again." Spence says. Yes, there was a blackout again a while ago after the male winners were announced. They said it was just a power shortage and there was nothing suspicious, but we were scared and decided to go home. We don't go to night events anymore, because it's dangerous, especially when that man is back, even though he wasn't here yesterday. The four of us went to a dress shop to rent a gown. We didn't have time to get it sewed anymore. It is said that it is required to go and to help us get rid of our thoughts about what happened last time. Time flew fast. Bri called a make-up artist, so the three of us just stayed here. "Why is it midnight again?" Mary asked. "Are they trying to make it like new year?" Bri replied. Foundation day is still tomorrow, but the masquerade ball is tonight at midnight. "There might be fireworks." said Daph. "Gosh, I'm excited." said Mary. I'm just quiet, we got dressed after getting our make-up and are ready to go. "Why the bloody theme?" I asked when we got in the car. "I don't know, maybe because it's midnight, then full moon, and masquerade?" Bri replied. "Maybe, but maybe there's a deeper meaning, right? We're newbies, we don't know much about that university yet." Daph answered, she's right. I still can't get out of my mind why the bloody theme. I think I've read it before, I just can't remember. "How can we gather friends when we're not allowed to say names?" said Mary. "Haha, ask them not us. It's a masquerade! Maybe you're just trying to flirt with guys." Bri replied. "What me? Maybe you!" And there they are again. The guards let us in after we showed our I.D. "Oh my god!" Daph said, us too were stunned. It's like you only see this kind of scenario in movies, it's actually the wealth of the school. "This place is splendid!" Bri said as we walked. It's like we're in a mansion. Up to the second floor, then there is also a balcony there. The garden outside is beautiful, even though I know we are still inside the university, I have not seen this place yet. Most of the girls wear black gowns, some wear red and violet. "It's so hard to hold this mask." I said. "You really have no patience." Bri replied. "Where are the boys?" Mary asked. "Uhm? We'll have fun even if it's just the four of us. How can you find them if everyone is wearing masks?" Daph. "Let's ask, though." Mary replied. "Duh, do it alone. It's embarrassing to ask guys' names. Besides, have you really been to a masquerade ball even once?" I answered irritably. "I'll just head to the garden." Daph said to us. "I'm just going up, see you later." Bri says goodbye. "I'm coming with you. I also want to go to the balcony." I said goodbye. "Alright, I'll be here for now, come back soon." We nodded to Mary. Even though there were many students, the place was really big, and we all just fit. "Whoah." I opened the balcony, even at night the surroundings were quite clear because of the full moon. "It's nice isn't it?" A man's voice. We're not close, are we? But there's nothing wrong with making friends, right? "Yeah." My answer. "This is Mr. Xavier's house." He said while leaning against the railings. My eyes widened, and he seemed to notice. "Haha you don't know? It's the truth." He answered calmly. "Why here?" I asked him. "He has a surprise, and he wants it to happen here." I turned in his direction. "I don't know what it is, but I'm sure there is, that's why we need to stay alert." He answered with a smile at me. What does he mean? "See you again at midnight." He said goodbye and left. Is he a weirdoo too? I took some wine and returned my eyes to the view. What time is it? They say it's a disgrace to fashion if I wear a wristwatch with this outfit. I took my phone out of the bag but it was a bit difficult, because the zipper ate a part of my gown. I tried to remove it. I was a bit annoyed because it was difficult and I might even tear my gown. Until I got stressed and knocked over the martini glass with the wine, which I placed on the railings. "Sorry." I apologized, because the man next to me was drenched with the wine. "It's okay, let me help you." He said and offered. He smeared the zipper with a little wine that was spilled on him, it slipped a little and the zipper ran again. "Th-thank y-you. A-and s-sorry." I stammered out of embarrassment. He just smiled at me and left. Who is he? Hmm let's wait until midnight. I checked my phone and it was 10:58 p.m. I'm quite bored. "Good Evening Everyone." I looked at the man talking on the railings of the second floor in the middle and the people below also saw him. "I hope you enjoy the ball. Will have the big scene at midnight-" He was cut off because the lights suddenly went out. Other people screamed, even me. I have a phobia about this because of that man tsk. I immediately fumbled for my phone and was about to press the on button when it suddenly lit up again. The other woman's screams got louder. I looked down and covered my mouth at what I saw. "Oh my gosh." I heard one say. "How did it happen?" Another guy said. "I thought security was high here?" One inserted. I also heard whispers and we all just looked at the man who was lifeless and bathed in his own blood. "Why does this always happen?" I whispered to myself. After a few minutes, the other people panicked too. The others were about to go out when they were suddenly blocked by many masked and tuxedoed guards. The windows were suddenly closed. The tension inside grew even stronger, the others struggled to get out because of fear, but the guards still could not be overcome. Suddenly, the music stopped, and we looked at the man who spoke earlier as he coughed to get our attention. "No one will leave this place." Mixed emotions can be seen in the people here because of what he said. "The murderer is still here. We need to catch him." His face was serious this time. "All of you should cooperate if you want to go home immediately. Find any evidence you can use." He stopped and spoke again. "This is a Masquerade Ball, which means you don't even know your friends because of the mask except maybe a few ones." He walked down the isle. "Don't take off your mask, 'til midnight as tradition, don't trust anyone for now and don't let yourself get revealed." He was standing next to the corpse. "Let's start the hunt!" He said and left, leaving us stunned. Some were excited while others were scared, angry and happy. I didn't know how to react. Others are busy looking for clues, they want investigations, they go to corners, rooms and everywhere else. Others just rested and continued to live life as normal and just enjoyed the ball even if something happened. They also kept themselves calm. This should end fast. I feel weird things that could happen again.
