As Ryan watched Luna hurry away, he couldn't shake off the feeling that he'd seen her before, but that was impossible.
Luna composed herself and headed to Daniel's office for her workplace details.
Daniel explained her responsibilities, and Luna learned she'd be working as a second-lead fashion designer. Although she felt a pang of disappointment, she was relieved that her new job would finally silence her mother's taunts.
Luna sat on her chair, opened the laptop provided by the company, and examined the designs she had to review before submitting to the lead designer of the company. Her phone rang; she went aside and received it.
"Yes, Lia?"
"Why are you not receiving calls? You haven't sent us your office location yet. We are waiting for you." She complained.
"Relax Lia. I was appointed and had to start today."
"Great! That's good news, Luna. Congrats."
"But wait, what, you started today? You're not joining us?" She added.
Luna smiled. Looked around and said, "Come on, no one can stop Luna from enjoying her life. I have made an excuse that I have to go somewhere."
Lia, on the other hand, smiled. "So send us the location, we will pick you up when you're free."
"I can leave at 3."
She told Lia the location and cut the call. She felt like someone was looking at her, but she ignored the feeling and got back to her seat.
Ryan entered Liam's room. "Ryan? You here?"
"I hate my job, Liam." He sat down, his voice tired.
"You told me you're free today, and now this?" Liam asked.
"I had to re-shoot a shot."
"Are you done, then?"
"I didn't even go there," Ryan said casually.
"So? Why did you wake up?"
"Once my sleep is disturbed, I can't sleep again, so I came here."
Liam smiled. "You are weird, Ryan Ross."
"I know, Liam Ross."
"I just remembered we are brothers." Liam teased.
"Half-Brothers," Ryan winked.
"And you are so happy about it, right?" Ryan nodded casually.
"I am hungry. Ask for tea and pancakes for me." Ryan stood and settled on the sofa, waiting for his breakfast.
"You sit here and enjoy your food. I'll be back in half an hour."
Ryan nodded and rested his head on the back of the sofa, closing his eyes.
Alex and Lia were waiting for Luna outside. She got out of the office and hugged Lia.
"I am here too," Alex said, making a face. Luna pushed him playfully and said, "I would hug you too if you used better perfume." She teased him.
"So funny," Alex replied, also teasing. Soon, they left for the shopping mall, as they had dinner plans for the night.
"Don't go, Ryan. I am begging you, please Ryan." She was begging, but he didn't stop.
"I can't live without you."
He turned back, got closer to her. "But I can. That's not my problem, Sophie. Handle it yourself. I didn't ask you to fall in love with me. And if you did, it's not my fault."
"If you never loved me, then why did you come close to me? Why did you behave like you loved me?"
"Did I ever say that I love you? Remind me, even if I said it for once?" His expression was playful.
"Ryan, don't do this with me. I will die."
"Go die then, but spare me."
The last sentence echoed in his head, and the dream was now over.
He woke up with a jolt. His tea and pancakes were cold now. He left them there and went out of the room.
He took his car and went back to his favorite spot. Where no one recognized him. Where no one knew his past. He sat on the same bench, admiring the sunset.
"Nothing is more beautiful than a sunset," he told himself.
Lia and Luna were still shopping, but Alex was already tired of waiting for them. He sat on a bench, waiting.
"Luna, look at this!" Lia showed her a dress.
"That looks great, Lia. You would slay it," Luna replied.
Lia smiled at her response. Lia came close to her, holding her hand.
"Luna, you're my best friend. You deserve the world. You will achieve your goals one day. And I'll always be by your side. Remember, I love you more than anything."
Luna's eyes welled up. She hugged Lia.
"Thank you, Lia. I needed that."
"If you guys are done with your crying, let's go for dinner." Alex intervened.
"Where are we going, by the way?"
"I've booked our table. This is my birthday treat, before you guys ask." Alex added.
And they left for the restaurant.
Ryan's phone rang; it was Liam. "Where are you, Ryan? We had plans for dinner."
"I'm coming to your office, Liam. We'll go together then."
"Great, come on over. I'm waiting."
Ryan gazed up at the sky one last time before leaving, its hue now a deeper shade of twilight. And with that, he departed.
Luna and her friends entered the restaurant and were directed to their reserved seats. They sat down and ordered their food.
"How was your first day, Luna?" Alex asked.
"It was good, but I didn't know I had to work today as well," Luna replied.
"What excuse did you make, then?" Alex asked, curious.
Luna smiled, her dimples visible. "I said I had to go to the doctor."
Lia playfully scolded her. "That's very bad, Luna. You lied on the very first day."
Luna winked. "I'll be lying even on the last day."
Their food was served, and they started gossiping.
Meanwhile, Ryan picked up Liam and arrived at the restaurant. They sat down and ordered their food.
Ryan scanned the room, and his gaze landed on Luna. His expression changed, and he thought to himself, "Her again. Why do I keep seeing her?"
"What happened?" Liam asked, noticing Ryan's sudden change.
"No... nothing," Ryan stuttered.
Liam raised an eyebrow. "No one here noticed you, then?"
Ryan made a face. "Nothing. Focus on your food."
Despite himself, Ryan glanced at Luna again. She was smiling, her dimples visible, and his heart skipped a beat. But there was something familiar about her face...
"Do I know her?" Ryan wondered to himself.
