ROSE'S CHOICE

Through out the launch Adien noticed Rose shift in mood, she seemed absent minded which made Adien to be worried that maybe Diana said or did something to Rose

Adien asked, visibly worried “Are you ok? You don’t seem yourself at all--- or you don’t like the food? I can ask for a new menu”

“No the food is delicious and I’m fine, I’m just tired I guess”

“Is it Diana? Did she say something to you?”

Rose was silence at this point because it is true that Diana said something to her even though it wasn’t what Adien was thinking

“No it's not her, I told you I’m just tired” Rose tried to divert the conversation but Adien had already seen through her silence

“I’m sorry, it’s my fault…I know I shouldn’t be apologizing on her behalf but I feel guilty, like its my fault, so please don’t let this spoil your mood”

Adien reached out to hold her hands on the table so gentle like he was scared she would avoid his touch and this simple act caused a butterfly feeling in her stomach but she felt it was wrong, after all, this is but an illusion. He is only this close to her because he doesn’t know who she really is and because he knows she is his second chance mate and also maybe because he’s trying to use her to make himself feel better after what he did to his former mate.

All these thoughts ran through Rose’s mind but she still didn’t remove or avoid his touch, why? Maybe because she has always craved his touch, no matter how many times she told herself to move on, to forget about him--- she still craved that gentle love and care, she still had feelings for him--- she always had something for him.

After a while of internal monologue and coaxing, she decided to enjoy the food.

After launch, Adien insisted that Rose goes home and rest so he dropped her.

“You know you shouldn’t be doing this right?” Rose asked once the car stopped at the bus-stop of her apartment

“What did I do? Drop you off? What wrong with that?” Adien tried to act ignorant

“I’m serious--- I really don’t want another rumor circulating again?”

“I would like to see who dare do that again beside, its almost 4pm, just few hours before closing time--- I’m sure you’ve already done all you need to do for today. Also I felt you must be tired and stressed out so just rest early”

“thank you for the ride and for letting me leave work early---- so I’ll go now”

Before Rose could leave the car, her hands were held. She turned to see Adien staring at her, they both stared silently, then Adien brought his head towards Rose slowly. Rose closed her eyes expecting a kissed but he suddenly smiled before saying a goodbye.

Rose was still in a daze even after Adien’s car left, she enters her apartment only to notice the doors unlocked. Before she could become alert, she saw Kira walking out from the kitchen with her shirt and shorts while holding a glass of wine.

“My god Kira how did you enter my apartment? You startled me”

“Your code was easy to crack. I was nearby and I felt like spending the night here”

“Then you should have called me to inform me”

“I can and will do whatever I want---- wait you came back early why?”

“that’s not the point of contention”

“it is--- why are you back early? Don’t tell me you were fired, No that can't be…. Are you sick?”

“No I wasn’t fired and I’m not sick---- Adien and I had launch and so he dropped me off and told me to just rest early” Rose replied while sitting on the couch, then removing her shoes and jewelries.

“What… you went on a date—I mean you had launch with Adien? What led to that, I didn’t know you both had become that close?”

“its an appreciation launch after my contribution to solving the crisis”

“of course--- like you’re the first to ever come up with an idea in his company, such amazing way to motivate—I mean appreciate your hard work” Kira laughed softly

“What are you insinuating Kira?”

“Nothing… but just so you know he could have just increased you salary right instead of going through all these stress”

Rose sighed heavily “well that shouldn’t be the part to worry about. Diana met me today and threatened to expose my identity to Adien”

“She knows? How? That’s almost impossible except she hired a skilled investigator”

“she must have suspected me from the start”

Kira snorts before swearing “ what does that b***h even wants?”

“ She said I either quit or she tells Adien”

“Isn’t it going to be the same result either way? If you decide to quit, she will definitely eventually tell Adien, then they will both see you as a coward. If you decide to tell him, he might still ask you to leave but at least you leave with you pride. She is just trying to corner you”

“So what am I to do since I’ll still be at the losing end, I really want to keep this job”

“What makes you think you can’t find another even better job. You’re hard working, intelligent, resilient…. He should be the one afraid of losing someone like you. What are you scared of, just tell him the truth since it has come to this”

“you’re right. What am I even afraid of, the least he would do is ask me to leave. I refuse to be displaced ever again” she turned to Kira smiling before hugging her tightly. Kira has always been that friend, sister, brother, father , mother, adviser, family… she never had

She stood up and ran upstairs to change, just then she decided to tell Adien everything on her own terms before Diana does.
