CHAPTER 3: WALKING INTO THE LION’S DEN

Standing at the entrance of a tall building, in fact, calling it a tall building is an understatement because it’s more of a sky-scraper and only God knows how many floors there are. Rose stood at the entrance excited and nervous at the same time. ‘This is it--- this is what I have been praying for all my life, to finally be in the space where I’m really needed, where I’m important---- I just hope this doesn’t flop--- so help me God’

Even though Rose looked like a boss lady with her steps and aura, she was battling inward ‘maybe I should just give up and go home. What if Adien remembers me? What if he humiliates me? At this point I don’t think I can stand another public disgrace----No, I can’t just give up without trying, I’ve worked hard to get here so the least I could do for myself is see this through till the end--- if it works out great, if it doesn’t also great’

And so Rose cat-walked majestically with her shoulders straight, her chin high exuding that bad b***h aura, for some reason, the people who passed her couldn’t help but look twice--- whether it was because she smelled nice or because she looked stunning, no one could tell. She wore a black suit paired with black trousers and a black tie, her lips deep red, her hair tied in a pony, and finally a glass that complements her overall look, especially her silver eyes, giving off that dominant aura. ‘Truly, Kira is an expert when it comes to fashion and transformation.’

Getting to the receptionist, she was directed to the office where the interview would take place. ‘Since the email states that I will be on probation, maybe they just want to test my capabilities.’

She knocked on the door, then entered only after hearing a faint come in from the voice inside.

“Good day, ma.”

“Good day--- you must be Miss MILE.”

“Yes ma I am”

“You can sit down.”

“Thank you, ma,” Rose replies before sitting.

“So Miss MILE, you were among the best we picked, though you were placed on probation for now, but seeing how good your credentials are, we decided to test your capabilities today, both intellectually and physically. If that’s ok by you, or if you want, you can still go and return tomorrow. “

“Oh there will be no need for that--- I’m ready ma”

“Are you sure--- this is going to determine whether we will keep you and also the kind of position you’ll be getting”

“Yes ma I’m ready”

“OK then---then we’ll start, give me a minute” the lady brings out a document from her drawer before beginning the ‘interview’

“Miss Miles why E$R BIO-TECH?”

“First of all, I have done a lot of research on E$R BIO-TECH, and I have come to a realization that their values, projects and reputation aligns with my goals which are using my skills in tech, science and biology to improve the lives of people around me in anyway I can”

“That’s so good of you, most people don’t really care about others they just want to make money. Moving to the next----what will E$R BIO-TECH gain from employing you”

“A lot actually, I am quite skillful both in tech and science--- aside graduating with a good result, I have experience that will definitely benefit the company in the long run”

“passion or money?”

“If you’re asking whether I’m here because of the salary or my passion, then I’ll be honest---- I want to earn, I mean I’m 24, still figuring my life out, no parent, so obviously money is part of it--- but in as much as I need the money, I’m drawn to the work done here and see a fit with my passion, plus I’m excited about the opportunity”

“I like that you’re honest” the telephone besides her rings, she picks it and answered while shaking her head like she was responding to someone, Rose became tensed, she suddenly felt like she was being watched

“you’re employed--- you’ll be put in a team for now. Congratulations” the lady stretches her right hand for a hand shake

For a moment, Rose froze in her sit “Really ma? I GOT THE JOB--- OH MY GOD, thank you so much”

“There is a meeting about to begin, follow me---you’ll be giving your onboarding speech there too”

“ ok ma--- thank you so much”

They both entered a large room filled with people, the lady told her to pick any random sit which she did but looking front, she saw Adien sitting at the front row, attentively listening to the speaker while commanding so much attention ‘An alpha indeed’

But just as she was about to remove her gaze, he locked eyes with her, staring at her intensively but she quickly looked away indifferently like nothing just happened. ‘what just happened? Did he recognize me? No that’s not possible but what if he does--- God I’m f****d’

Later she was called upon to give her onboarding speech, she was so nervous but she didn’t reveal it--- she just walked up to the platform with a smile on her face

“ Good day everyone, I’M Miss Mile and I am honored to join E$R BIO-TECH. I’m really excited to drive innovation and support our mission to revolutionize skincare and health care. I am eager to collaborate with the team, push boundaries and make real impact. Thank you very much for this opportunity” Everyone claps while she leaves the stage. ‘I don’t think he recognized me. Great, all I need to do is do my job, collect my paycheck, stay far away from him and leave that chapter of my life behind’

In a big space known to be the office of the CEO of E$R BIO-TECH, ADIEN REANON is seen holding a tablet where a clip is played, he paused it, gets the documents on the table, opens it before mumbling

“ROSE MILES --- ROSE, why does the name sound familiar? Maybe I heard it somewhere, it’s a common name”

He picks up his phone before saying one sentence

“ I want MISS MILE on my personal team”
