ROSE POV
After speaking to Kira, I felt better – so I went back to work. Suddenly there was a loud commotion coming from the floor below us. At first I thought It was just colleagues having a little altercation, but then It became serious – I saw other staff running towards the second floor, even the noise became worse.
I decided to go, and know what exactly was the problem. On getting to the floor, it was crowed – I managed to squeeze myself through to get to the front. After all throws and turns, I reached the front, and was able to find out the cause of the whole commotion.
A beta who according to what I heard is called Creed, from another department was ruffling another junior staff named Sol. The Creed guy looked territorial, and physically bigger than Sol – ‘This is bully’.
According to what I heard from the people trying to calm the fire, the Creed guy was doing this over a resource allocation issue, which escalated beyond professional. While the Sol guy was also trying to defend himself, denying every allegation – it fueled Creed’s anger, and now he was being hit like a thief.
‘This is really sad to watch. They only have the balls to do this because the CEO isn’t present today’
If I remember correctly, fighting within the work premises is prohibited. You either get a deduction of salary, or in worst cases – you get fired. Despite knowing this, he still went ahead to fight?
Some staff were even scared of intervening, in other not to get involved during punishment – which I totally understand. But just standing, and watching the huge guy beat up that poor guy was disheartening, others were even recording like it’s a show.
I finally couldn’t watch anymore. So I walked straight to both guys – one who was hitting, while the other was trying to protect his face, and the little dignity he had left. I held Creed’s hands and said,
“STOP”
I did not raise my voice. I did not shout – I made sure of it. In fact, I said it so lightly. But for some reason, something in what I said – or something under it – or how I said it – or even how my wolf pushed through the words – stopped Creed mid- way.
He blinked, stepped back – like he couldn’t understand, or explain what was going on. Then he turned around and left. The whole room was silent for a while, everyone was still wondering what had happened, even I myself.
‘What just happened? I know something happened. I felt it, but what was it?’
‘Why did he react that way?’
Sol breathe heavily in relief. Others left since the fun was over – and I also went back to my work space, still in disbelief and confusion.
There were still a lot of murmuring in the office, some team members were giving me strange look – because apparently, news had travelled.
‘I wonder how it was twisted this time?’
While I was still in my head space, I felt a light tap on my shoulder. I looked beside me, and it was Sol. Looking at him carefully now, he did look smaller in physique compared to that Creed guy. He must have cleaned himself up, before coming here – because you can see the blood stains on his shirt, that looked like he tried using a tissue to clean them – and also on his face, you can see the bruises left by the punches.
“Thank you very much for helping me. I wasn’t the one in charge of the allocation, but he suddenly blamed me, and started hitting me. If you hadn’t interfered – I would have really landed in the hospital with serious injuries.”
“It ok. I just couldn’t stand by and watch.”
“I’m sorry for getting you involved. I’m sure the CEO won’t take this lightly”
“Don’t worry, the CEO is fair. As long as you’re not at fault, he won’t blame you. And you don’t have to worry about me – I can handle myself just fine”
I said the last sentence while looking at him, and smiling – but I noticed he kept avoiding eye contact, and looked like he was – blushing?
‘Was he shy? Did I make him blush?’
Well I’m not surprised, because even as an omega – I used to have a lot of omega males confess their feeling to me when I was in uni. Some said I looked like an alpha female or a femdom. I didn’t know the meaning of the second one, so I did my research – and it turned out I was really into stuff like that.
I would have loved to enlighten you guys on this, but maybe some other time. I still needed to figure out what the hell happened earlier – So after Sol left, I stood up and went to the restroom. I was already feeling unsettled and uncomfortable with the looks I was getting from my colleagues.
On getting to the rest room, I pour cold water on my face, and looked at myself through the mirror.
‘What really happened? Whatever that was, it was definitely not what a normal omega wolf can do’
After calming myself down a bit, I went back to work – ignoring the gossips. I saw Mr Corner walk up to me.
‘Adien must be back’
He informed me that Mr Reanon wanted to see me immediately.
After knocking, I entered his office. He looked at me, then dropped the files he was reading. We both stayed quiet for a while. Then he asked
“Are you alright?”
To say I was shocked was an understatement. I was taken aback by the question because I expected him to ask about the incident earlier, or the ongoing project I was handling. But he didn’t. Also with the fact that he asked the question while looking straight at me like he was daring me to lie, and his tone was so soft – like he really wanted to know if I was ok.
I was speechless. It took me few seconds to regain my composure, and relay my answers – because he was waiting patiently for it.
“I’m alright sir”
He answered with a light nod, before I left.
That night, I received a message from an unknown number. It contained no name, no introduction. Just a single line: "You need to know what you are. Your mother did."
