THE DINNER

ROSE POV
I finally settled on a red dress Kira bought for me on my last birthday, a black purse and black heels with a light make up. Didn’t want to look too ravishing for a ‘project meeting’.
Adien had asked for his driver to pick me up but I refused, it wasn’t a date, so why should his driver pick me up? Its just a ‘project meeting’. So I went with my car, purposely going earlier than the agreed time, because I wanted to pick a good spot, where I can see him coming in before he sees me. Don’t get me wrong, I just want to be able to fix my posture quickly and arrange my face accordingly when I spot him, to avoid any misinterpretation. After all this is just a ‘project meeting’. This is not a date. I had told myself that fourteen times between my house and this restaurant, and I was prepared to say it for the fifteenth time.
The restaurant was really worthy of its popularity: classy, chill, beautiful, nice fragrant that lives you relaxed. Even the reception is topnotch, imagine being served a nice bottle of chilled champagne while waiting for ‘my boss’.
Few minutes later, I saw his car drive across the restaurant, probably to find a good spot to pack. Then he walked into the restaurant looking like a snack, without even doing too much. The way he commands the room, grabbing so much attention by just walking in, even his skin is giving off that glowing effects we always see on k-dramas.
‘or is it just me seeing it? Why do I keep staring?’
He sat down on his reserved seat, which was facing me. I greeted him while staring at him intensively, and I noticed that he kept avoiding eye contact with me, in a cute way though which only amused me.
The staff came to take our order by giving us the menu. I picked something nice, different from what Adien picked, and the staff left to get our order. While we were waiting, I noticed Adien kept fidgeting. He was nervous, Adien was nervous?
He was three minutes late, which told me everything I needed to know about how nervous he was, Adien Reanon was never late for anything.
“hmm… thank you for coming Miss Mile”
‘So this is how you want to play? Sure bring it on… he just called me Miss Miles’
“of course SIR”
“ About the project you’re currently handling, how far are you?”
“Currently on the distribution process SIR”
“Already? So ….”
He was cut off by the staff who brought our other.
“Thank you” He said to the staff
“Let’s just eat first”.
The food was amazing, if not for the fact that Adien was here, I would have exclaimed loudly because the food was that good. Moments later we finished eating, both the food and dessert, and the dishes were taken away.
“Did you enjoy the food?”
“Yes, the food was really good SIR. So where were we SIR….” I was cut off before I could finish speaking
“I was wrong and I knew it when I did it. Rose I’m sorry”
Then there was silence. I won’t say I was totally surprised, because I knew from the start that the ‘project meeting’ was a lie, but I didn’t expect him to apologize so direct. I didn’t have any expression. I couldn’t say anything
‘What was I supposed to say? The deed had already been done, no need crying over spilled milk. Besides I already decided to move on. Though, at first, I had hated him. I was angry, but later, I realized that it was meaningless, he’s an alpha, while I was just a nobody, it was a choice he choose to make. If I was in his shoes, I would probably do the same.’
‘But another part of me had hoped that he would fight and choose me. Call me naïve, but I knew it wouldn’t end well, but I still hoped anyways. Poor girl’
“I know you hate me, and I don’t blame you, because I totally deserve it. I knew from the beginning, I was a coward. I thought that if I kept quite, if I didn’t do anything, then it will all go away, the bond. And when the elders found out, I picked a side and I made my choice, without even considering how it would affect you. I’m a terrible person, I know, but can you forgive me Rose?”
“Sir…”
“please Rose I’m sorry… just give me a chance to make amends. I’ll do anything” Adien held my hands while apologizing.
He looked so powerless. I felt his hand holding me shaking, he looked nothing like the dignified CEO of E$R Bio Tech or the alpha of the powerful Reanon pack. I felt overwhelmed and I needed to breath a breathe of fresh air. I needed to leave because I didn’t want to breakdown here.
After a while, I told him that I couldn’t give him any answer right now, I needed time. I need him to prove to me how sincere and sorry he really is. I want to be sure that he really love and care about me as Rose, not just as his mate.
So I stood up, and I left. Stepping out, I had this feeling like I was being watched. The feeling was crawling on my skin like goosebump, I looked around, not seeing anything before entering my car and leaving.
Adien on the other hand, watched Rose leave. He already decided to do anything to prove to Rose how sorry he is and that he really cares about her.
He was watching her across the restaurant, entering her car when something fundamentally shifted in him. He noticed a woman at a corner table lower her phone just a fraction too deliberately, but when he looked at her, she avoiding eye contact and acting like nothing happened. She was wearing a baseball cap covering most of her features, but Adien didn’t confront her because he didn’t want to cause a scene and he wasn’t sure, maybe he was just being paranoid. So he stood up and also left the restaurant.
The dinner was real. But someone was watching.
