The First Test
Max spent the next few days perfecting the time machine. It was a simple device—an old, modified clock with wires and a small button in the center—but its potential was limitless. He hesitated for a moment, unsure of what his first trip should be. Should he travel to the past, to a point in history he admired? Or should he test his theory in the future, and see what wonders awaited him?
Max decided on something small, something he could control. He set the machine to travel just five minutes back in time. If anything went wrong, he’d only be a few moments away from his starting point. He pressed the button, and the world around him seemed to stretch and warp. In an instant, he was back.
The scene before him was exactly the same, except for one detail: a small pencil that had been lying on his desk had moved slightly. His breath caught in his throat. It worked. He had just traveled back in time.
Max looked around cautiously, making sure nothing else had changed. He knew that even the smallest change in the past could have massive consequences. With a feeling of exhilaration, he reset the machine and returned to the present.
But something had changed. The air felt different, charged with energy. Max couldn’t help but wonder what other surprises the machine might hold.
