Let me share a bit of my perception when I write “Prisoner”, maybe it can help for some people to understand this story better.

1.Why Lan didn’t sign the align straight away?
Prisoner took place in ancient time, where people are wary of each other and more inclusive to their own group. Gusu, Jin and Nie are smaller yet strong sect who believe on their ability to be autonomy in ruling. Especially Gusu was led by traditional and prideful Lan Qiren. Although they acknowledge Jiang as good sect but it didn’t mean they trust Gusu with others. It’s either they win or die, but never bow to others ,type of thinking. If we watch or read lot of historical movie or drama, this egoistical element always there.
2.Why Jiang invade Gusu?
Let me highlight the importance of Jiang Wuxian here. Being a General Commander with long experience and wide political knowledge, he knew Lan Qiren approach in handling issue. As we read back at first chapter, Jiang Wuxian and his father had known it will be fruitless to offer allies to Lan Qiren, (they proven right when Lan Qiren did reject Lan Xichen ideas to seek others help). Gusu was playing an important role in providing medical knowledge, healing and medicine, Sect that everyone will turn into when seeking for health issue. Jiang Wuxian knew that if Gusu fall into Wen, the resources for medical will be limited, and politically, Wen will be higher in power.
Analysing the situation, Jiang Wuxian knew Gusu strength would not be enough to defend themselves and Gusu fall was a big loss to cultivator world. Jiang and Wen had face back to back in war; they’re on same level of strength. Lacking of time, added with Lan Qiren traditional way of leading (win or die protecting), leave him no choice but to stop Wen plan with bring Gusu under him, forcefully.
As story progress, we can see things start to change , shifted in perception and thinking. People did said, hurdle and adversity make one mind, reconsider a lot of thing. Although Jiang had hard times to convince Lan Qiren sign to alliances (they had long conference, remember? While wanji plays with the rabbit), they manage to knock sense into him. Maybe watching the fallen of his sect in front his eyes and acknowledging that stand alone didn’t help, already change Lan Qiren mind, added with long and persistence persuasion during conference, make him rethink and sign the alliances. That was life right? History didn’t come with snap of fingers. Sometime we hold on one principle, no matters what people said, we just know that what we did is right, until one day something happen that challenge our principle and as times passes, we learn to be more flexible. Jin and Nie learn from Gusu fall, learn from their fall and step forward for alliances. We not only learn from our failures, but also from others failures.
3.Why Jiang took wanji as prisoner?
Isn’t that obvious? Jiang Wuxian bumps into him. Haha. Wen on rampage when Jiang interfere with their plan. Wen want Gusu. Jiang protect Gusu. The alliances aren’t officially signed yet. Wanji is man that respected by Gusu, so they will listen to him. So less fatality to convince Gusu come with them. Lotus Pier is Jiang strong base, Wen wouldn’t dare to step into there impulsively. Yunmeng will be safe place to strategize and plan the next move. As Wen being desperate hunt for Gusu, Jiang also need step up their game to make sure Wen fail. Political always headache, I know.
In my mind, Jiang Wuxian is great analyser and strategist. We can see he manage to bring different strong yet divided sect into one, under Jiang. He change their mind, challenge their belief and convince them to sign alliances with Jiang, not by word but by right decisive and excellent leadership
4.Why wuxian got a morning sickness when Wanji is the one who pregnant?
This isn’t rare case. According to folk at my place, when husband get the morning sickness instead of wife could be because either of three things
-He loved his wife too much
-He wish to have child or one gender so bad
-The child will has close bond with him
Actually this case happens a lot than we thought. Kind of sweet, bonded thing. Thus, I can said Wuxian might have morning sickness because either three mentioned things above. Meanwhile Wanji became glutton because hormonal changes.
