Chapter 23

802 Words

Why would I be afraid to eat the food when I knew I hadn’t poisoned it? Where would I even get poison from? That accusation didn’t even make sense. I held the plate, scooped a spoonful of the food, and brought it to my mouth confidently. But just as I was about to take the bite, Damien slapped my hand hard. The spoon flew from my grip, and the food spilled to the ground. “You don’t need to eat it,” he said flatly. Then he turned his furious gaze on Anna. “Even if she wants to poison me, even if she plans to kill me, what’s it to you?” he asked sharply. “Are you Damien? Is Damien you?” Anna’s eyes widened. “So you mean someone trying to kill you isn’t a big deal to you? Brother, are you hearing yourself?” I just stood there, watching them trade words like enemies instead of siblings.
