MCNAMARA TURNED LEFT on the landing with Clare MacKay in tow and headed to Mrs Gordon’s flat. Just when he wanted to go inside, his cell phone beeped, and he was shocked to notice that his blood started pumping faster in his heart.
The detective had sent a text message to Bryony, while he was waiting in the parking lot for Claire. He had wanted to let her know that he didn’t think he would be free until later in the evening.
Bryony hadn’t answered yet, so the chief inspector hoped that the text message, he had just received, was from her. However, McNamara didn’t think that he should have lost his head because of a text message, and he grimaced when he realised that he had done just that.
