JAMES RETURNED WITH his mobile phone in less than five minutes and informed McNamara that Jo and Mike had already started asking questions to one of the constables.
“That’s good,” the chief inspector said. “You should have a backup as well, James,” he mentioned, upset with himself that he hadn’t thought of that beforehand.
“I have already taken care of that, sir,” James replied in a reassuring tone of voice. “I found McEwan in the squad room, sir. He wasn’t doing anything important, so I asked him to accompany me. He’s waiting for me in front of the first interrogation room.”
