Chapter Five
Jennifer stood before her father with tears streaming down her face. She clasped her hands together and pleaded desperately.
"Dad, please... I can't marry that cold CEO! Don't you know everyone calls him the Devil's CEO? What if he kills me? How will I ever live the life I've always dreamed of?"
Mr. David looked at his daughter and gently patted her shoulder, pretending to comfort her. However, deep inside, he had already made up his mind. Marrying Ronald would bring greater fame, influence, and business opportunities to the David family.
"You must marry him," he said firmly. "Think about our company. This marriage will secure our future."
Jennifer lowered her head for a moment before a wicked smile flashed across her face.
"Dad... why don't you let Esther marry him instead?" she suggested. "After all, she has been living with our grandparents all these years. She deserves a better life too."
Inside her heart, she laughed coldly.
Go and marry him... and die. Then I'll become Father's only heir.
Mr. David remained silent for a few seconds. Suddenly, his face brightened.
"Come here, Jennifer."
She walked toward him nervously, expecting a slap for suggesting such an outrageous idea.
Instead, he wrapped his arms around her proudly.
"You truly are my daughter," he said with a satisfied smile. "That's a brilliant idea. Whether Esther agrees or not, she will come to the city... and she will marry Ronald."
Father and daughter exchanged a satisfied smile, unaware that fate had already begun writing a different story.

Meanwhile...
Esther was watering the flowers in her grandparents' garden when a luxurious black Lexus slowly pulled up in front of the house.
She looked up in surprise.
Who could be visiting us?
Curious, she hurried inside.
A graceful elderly woman stepped out of the car. She carried herself with elegance, and the warm smile on her face immediately caught Esther's attention.
To Esther's surprise, her grandmother walked over and embraced the woman affectionately.
"Esther," her grandmother called gently, "come and greet our visitor."
Esther walked over respectfully.
"Good afternoon, Ma."
The elderly woman smiled warmly.
"It's been such a long time, Esther."
Esther blinked in confusion.
Her grandmother smiled and introduced them.
"This is Mrs. Nathaniel... Ronald's mother."
Esther politely greeted her once again but searched her memory in vain. She couldn't remember ever meeting the woman before.
Before she could speak, Mrs. Nathaniel gently pulled her into a warm embrace.
"My dear child," she said softly, holding Esther's hands. "You've grown into such a beautiful young lady."
She smiled as memories filled her heart.
"When you and Ronald were little, both of you used to run around this very garden together. You were inseparable until the tragic deaths of your mother and Ronald's father changed everything."
Esther's eyes widened.
"I'm sorry, Ma... I don't remember any of that."
Mrs. Nathaniel smiled kindly.
"That's alright. I still have many of your childhood photographs at home. One day, I'll show them to you."
For the first time in many years, Esther felt genuine warmth.
Apart from her grandparents, no one had ever treated her with such kindness. Mrs. Nathaniel's gentle voice and loving smile reminded her of the mother she had lost.
"I'll come and visit you someday," Esther said with a grateful smile.
Mrs. Nathaniel nodded happily.
After spending the afternoon chatting with Esther and her grandparents, she finally stood up to leave.
As the Lexus drove away, Esther couldn't stop thinking about everything she had heard.
Who exactly is Ronald... and why does it feel as though fate is slowly bringing him back into my life?
