Chapter Seven
Ronald stood frozen in disbelief.
He began pacing back and forth, running a hand through his hair in frustration.
"What is wrong with this woman?" he muttered.
He had only offered her a bottle of water, yet she had suddenly collapsed in front of him.
To Ronald, women were troublesome, emotional, and far too weak. He had no idea how to handle such a situation.
Just then, a middle-aged woman who had been jogging nearby hurried over.
"What happened?" she asked with concern.
"I don't know," Ronald replied coldly. "She suddenly fainted."
The woman knelt beside Esther and sprinkled a little water on her face.
Ronald folded his arms.
"She's probably pretending," he said indifferently. "She'll wake up soon."
Almost immediately, Esther sneezed softly.
Her eyelashes fluttered before she slowly opened her eyes.
Ronald smirked.
"You see? I told you she was pretending."
The woman shot him a disapproving look before quietly walking away.
Esther blinked in confusion.
Her clothes were slightly wet, and her head felt heavy.
She slowly sat up, trying to remember what had happened.
Then she looked up.
The same handsome man stood before her with a cold expression.
Fragments of her memory returned.
She remembered talking to him...
Then everything went black.
She gently touched his arm.
"What happened to me?"
Ronald immediately pulled his arm away.
"I knew it," he said coldly. "Women always have tricks. If you wanted money, you could have simply asked. Why pretend to faint?"
Esther frowned.
"I'm not pretending."
Her voice remained calm despite her anger.
"I suddenly felt weak and dizzy. You don't have to insult me."
She looked directly into his eyes.
"And for your information, I don't need your money... or your concern."
She took a step back.
"I dislike arrogant men just as much as you dislike women."
Without waiting for his reply, Esther turned around and walked away.
Ronald stared after her in disbelief.
For the first time in his life, a woman had ignored him completely.
"Interesting..." he murmured.
Then his face darkened.
"How dare she speak to me like that?"
He clenched his fists.
"Doesn't she know who I am?"
But Esther never looked back.
---
"Grandma, I'm home!"
Esther forced a smile as she entered the house.
Her grandmother looked at her lovingly.
"Tomorrow, you'll be leaving for the city."
Her grandfather sighed deeply.
"We're going to miss you so much."
Esther's eyes softened.
"I'll miss both of you too," she replied gently. "But I promise I'll visit often."
Later that night, Esther sat quietly on her small bed.
She couldn't stop thinking about the rude man she had met in the forest.
I hope I never see him again once I get to the city.
She sighed.
I really can't stand that man.
---
Meanwhile...
A private jet landed at the airport.
As the aircraft door opened, Ronald stepped out wearing a perfectly tailored black suit.
His powerful presence immediately attracted attention.
Andrew, his loyal assistant, followed closely behind, carrying his briefcase.
He secretly glanced at his boss.
I just hope today goes peacefully, Andrew thought.
He quickly opened the luxury car door.
Once they were inside, Ronald leaned back in his seat.
"How is my mother?" he asked.
Andrew smiled.
"Madam is doing well, sir."
He hesitated before continuing.
"She also reminded me that we're visiting the David family tomorrow to discuss your engagement."
Ronald's expression instantly darkened.
He slammed his fist against the leather seat.
"I don't care about any engagement."
His voice was icy.
"All I want is the David Company. That man owes me a huge debt. Whether he pays me with money or property is none of my concern."
Andrew cleared his throat.
"Sir... Madam said if you refuse to come tomorrow, she'll never forgive you."
Ronald sighed in frustration.
"She knows she's my greatest weakness."
After a brief silence, he looked out the window.
"Tell her I'll be there... but she must not force me to do anything against my will."
Andrew smiled to himself.
Behind Ronald's cold and arrogant personality was a son who loved his mother more than anyone else.
The car continued moving through the city.
Ronald rested his head against the window.
For some strange reason...
The image of the stubborn girl from the forest refused to leave his mind.
He chuckled quietly.
"Does a girl who doesn't care about money really exist?"
Andrew's eyes widened in surprise.
It was the first time he had ever heard his boss talk about a woman with genuine curiosity.
To be continued…
