Chapter Nineteen — A Dangerous Turn Immediately after Ronald entered the office, he began pacing restlessly. "What happened to him?" he asked Andrew. "Who killed the old CEO?" Andrew hesitated. He didn't want to tell Ronald that the former owner of Springville had been killed because of Esther. "I don't know yet," he replied carefully. "The assistant called. We need to travel to A City urgently." Ronald stopped pacing. "Then let's go." Andrew immediately packed their suitcases and luggage. A few minutes later, Ronald came downstairs wearing a black leather jacket. He was moving so quickly that he almost bumped into Esther. Esther looked at him curiously. "Ronald, what's happening?" Before she could ask anything else, Ronald stepped closer to her. "I'm travelling today." His voice was surprisingly gentle. "If anything happens, call me immediately. I don't know when I'll be back." Esther stared at him for a moment. "Okay. I'll take care of myself." She paused. "And you should take care of yourself too. Make sure you eat properly and take your medication." A faint smile appeared on Ronald's face. "I will." Andrew hurried downstairs with the luggage. "Boss, we should leave now." Ronald nodded. He glanced at Esther one more time before walking away with Andrew. Within minutes, they left the mansion and headed for the airport. --- Meanwhile... Since she had nothing else to do, Esther decided to visit her grandparents. She packed some foodstuffs into her car and began driving toward the village. As she drove along the quiet road, she suddenly noticed a car following closely behind her. Esther glanced at the rear-view mirror. The car accelerated. A cold smile appeared on her lips. "So..." "It seems the past is catching up with me." She increased her speed, but the car behind her continued pursuing her. Esther looked inside the vehicle. There were two men inside. I should be able to handle them myself. She suddenly turned sharply toward a quiet, bushy part of the road. The other car followed. Esther stopped her car and stepped out. She opened the trunk and calmly took out two guns. The two men also stepped out of their vehicle. One of them raised his weapon. Before he could fire, Esther shot at the windshield of their car. The glass shattered. The men became furious and rushed toward her. Esther didn't move. The moment one of them came within range, she fired. The bullet struck his leg, and he fell to the ground. The second man tried to attack her from behind. Esther turned quickly and shot his arm. He screamed and fell beside his companion. Esther walked toward them calmly. "Who sent you?" The men remained silent. Esther narrowed her eyes. "You don't want to answer?" She stepped closer. "Do you know who you're dealing with?" The two men stared at her in confusion. Esther took out her phone. "I'm giving you one last chance." She paused. "I'm the Three-Star Leader." The men's expressions immediately changed. "Three-Star Leader?" They looked at each other in fear. Everyone in their circle knew that the Three-Star Leader was not someone to provoke. Esther raised her phone. "Tell me who sent you." "It was Jennifer David!" one of them finally shouted. "She sent us!" Esther immediately began recording their confession. A few minutes later, the police arrived and arrested both men. Esther watched them being taken away. A cold expression appeared on her face. Jennifer... So you haven't learned your lesson. She got back into her car and continued her journey to the village. --- A City The moment Ronald stepped off his private jet, he noticed that something was wrong. The atmosphere around him was unusually tense. He immediately entered his car and headed toward his Mafia headquarters. But the moment he arrived, gunshots echoed through the building. Bang! Bang! Bang! Ronald's expression hardened. His gang had been attacked. He immediately pulled out his gun and moved toward the battlefield. The moment his men saw him, their confidence returned. "President!" Ronald stepped into the middle of the chaos. The attackers immediately noticed him and turned their weapons toward him. Several bullets flew in his direction. Ronald moved swiftly, dodging the bullets before firing back. His eyes were cold and frightening. Within minutes, several attackers were defeated. Some were dead. Others escaped. Three men were captured alive. "Take them to the basement." Ronald's voice was cold. "Yes, boss." His men immediately dragged the prisoners away. Ronald returned to his room, changed his clothes, and headed toward the basement. --- The Basement Three prisoners were tied to chairs. Ronald stood before them with a cold expression. "Who sent you?" They remained silent. Ronald's eyes narrowed. "I'll ask you one more time." "Who sent you?" Still, none of them answered. Ronald looked at his men. "Cut one finger from each of them." The prisoners' expressions changed instantly. "Wait!" One of them struggled against the ropes. "We'll talk!" Ronald remained emotionless. His men stepped forward. But before they could reveal anything, something strange happened. The prisoners suddenly began trembling violently. Their eyes widened. One of them started coughing. Then another began vomiting. Within seconds, all three collapsed. Ronald's expression changed. He stepped closer and examined them. Their lips had turned blue. "They've been poisoned." His men stared at the bodies in shock. Ronald clenched his fists. Someone had deliberately silenced them before they could reveal anything. He looked at his men. "This isn't over." His voice was dangerously calm. "Whoever is behind this has already started making their move." He turned away from the bodies. "We have a serious battle ahead of us." To be continued...
