Chapter Twelve: The Truth Beneath the Silence The hospital erupted into chaos. Doctors rushed through the corridors. Security guards searched every entrance. Police officers questioned nurses and visitors. But Mama Grace was gone. Amara stood in the middle of the corridor, unable to move. "My grandmother..." Her voice trembled. "Someone took my grandmother." Ethan held her shoulders. "We'll find her." "What if she's hurt?" "We'll find her." "What if we're too late?" Ethan pulled her into his arms. "We won't be." But even as he said those words, fear was growing inside him. --- Daniel stood near the security desk, staring at the hospital cameras. "There was a power interruption at exactly 11:47 p.m." The security officer nodded. "Only for three minutes." "Three minutes was enough." Daniel pointed at the screen. "Who had access to the electrical room?" The officer checked the records. "Only hospital maintenance staff." Daniel's eyes narrowed. "Find every one of them." --- Meanwhile, Richard Cole sat alone in his mansion. His hands trembled as he held an old photograph. The photograph showed four young people standing together beneath an umbrella. Richard. David. Sarah. And Mama Grace. They had once been friends. Before money. Before betrayal. Before death. Richard stared at the photograph. "I'm sorry." A voice came from behind him. "Sorry doesn't bring people back." Richard turned. Daniel stood in the doorway. "Where is Mama Grace?" Richard said nothing. Daniel walked closer. "You knew this would happen." "I didn't." "You knew someone was coming for her." Richard lowered his head. "I suspected." Daniel's anger exploded. "You suspected?" "You let this happen!" Richard stood. "I was trying to protect everyone." "By keeping us ignorant?" Richard's eyes filled with tears. "Your mother died because I trusted the wrong person." Daniel froze. "What does that mean?" Richard walked toward the fireplace. "Twenty years ago, David discovered that someone was stealing money from a company owned by our families." "Your mother and I wanted to expose it." "But someone betrayed us." "Who?" Richard stared into the flames. "My business partner." "His name was Victor Kane." Daniel's expression changed. "Victor Kane?" Richard nodded. "He disappeared after your mother died." "Everyone believed he was dead." "He wasn't." --- Across the city, inside an abandoned house, Mama Grace sat in a chair. Her hands were tied, but she remained calm. The person standing before her removed their coat. Mama Grace stared at him. "Victor." The man smiled. "Still remember me after all these years?" "I could never forget the man who destroyed our lives." Victor laughed softly. "Destroyed?" "You misunderstand." "I simply protected what belonged to me." "You killed David and Sarah." Victor's smile disappeared. "I didn't kill them." Mama Grace stared at him. "Then who did?" Victor stepped closer. "That's what I've come to tell you." Before he could continue, headlights appeared outside. Victor looked toward the window. "They found us." --- At the hospital, Ethan received a call. "We found the car." He immediately turned to Amara. "We're going." Amara nodded. Daniel grabbed Ethan's arm. "No." Ethan frowned. "Why?" "Because whoever took her wants us to follow." "Then we follow." Daniel shook his head. "Not without a plan." Amara stepped forward. "I don't care about the plan." "My grandmother is out there." "I'll go." Ethan looked at her. "I'll go with you." --- The police tracked the vehicle to an abandoned house on the edge of the city. Ethan, Amara, and Daniel approached carefully. The front door was open. Inside, everything was silent. "Grandma?" Amara called. No answer. They moved deeper into the house. Suddenly— A gunshot echoed from another room. Everyone froze. "Get down!" Daniel pulled Amara behind a wall. Ethan rushed toward the sound. He found Mama Grace alone. The ropes had been cut. "Grandma!" Amara ran into her arms. She cried like a child. "I thought I'd lost you." Mama Grace held her tightly. "I'm sorry." "Who took you?" Mama Grace looked toward the doorway. "Victor." Ethan's face hardened. "Victor Kane?" Mama Grace nodded. "He is alive." Daniel stared at her. "Where is he?" "He left." "Why?" Mama Grace looked at Ethan. "Because he wanted me to give you a message." "What message?" Her eyes filled with tears. "He said your father isn't the villain you think he is." Everyone fell silent. Amara looked at Ethan. "Then who is?" Mama Grace took a shaky breath. "The person who betrayed your parents..." "...was someone inside their own family." --- Later that night, Mama Grace finally revealed the secret she had carried for twenty years. David and Sarah had discovered that millions were being stolen from their business. The evidence pointed toward someone close to them. Someone they trusted. They planned to expose the truth. But before they could... Their car was forced off the road. Mama Grace had always believed Richard was responsible. Now she wasn't sure. "Your parents left something behind," she told Amara. "Something that could reveal everything." "What?" "A recording." "Where is it?" Mama Grace looked at Ethan. "Hidden inside the old Cole family mansion." Ethan's heart sank. "The mansion?" Mama Grace nodded. "Your parents knew they might die." "They recorded the truth." "Find it." --- At that exact moment, across the city, Vanessa entered the Cole mansion. She walked straight into Richard's office. He looked up. "Why are you here?" Vanessa smiled. "I came to give you one last chance." "Leave Ethan alone." "I will." Richard frowned. "On one condition." "What?" "You give me the recording." Richard's face went pale. "You know about it?" Vanessa smiled. "I know everything." She leaned closer. "And if you don't give it to me..." "I'll make sure Ethan learns what you did twenty years ago." Richard stared at her in horror. "You don't understand what you're threatening." Vanessa's smile disappeared. "No." "You don't understand what I'm willing to do." She turned and walked away. Richard remained frozen. The secret was no longer buried. It was now in the hands of the most dangerous person in their lives.
