Chapter 2- So It Negins

928 Words
5 years later “Parker, you’re not ready.” Joey pleaded with me as I continued to empty the limited amount of clothing I owned out of my closet and into a duffle bag. “Like hell I’m not.” I retorted as I opened my dresser door removing my undergarments and knife. “ I can’t sit here training forever, what am I training for Joey? What happened to my parents that night? Where are their bodies?” I shouted at him frustrated as I snatched my bag and fling it over my shoulder. My eyes bore a hole through him, I was done training for some unknown threat while Jason got to go off to school, be normal, have a normal life. What the hell even is a normal life. “Parker” He sighed “Parker, just put the bag down and come with me. It’s time I told you the truth.” His eyes saddened as if he was preparing to put a burden on my shoulders. Tossing the bag back onto the bed I direct my gaze to Joey staring directly into his eyes. “No games, tell me the truth or i’m gone.” I folded my arms over my chest to express how serious I was at this moment. Joey’s head hung down for a moment and shook from side to side as slowly looked back up at me, fear housed in his eyes. “Just follow me.” with that he walked out of my room, me closely following behind, we descended the stairs and entered the basement. “Here, help me move this.” Joey nodded his head towards a storage shelf on the back wall, and I raced forward grabbing one side “Well let’s move it then old man.” a small smirk crossed his lips and was gone just as quickly as it appeared, we slid the shelf away from the wall revealing a door with a padlock. “Are you sure you’re ready? Once we enter this room you can’t go back Parker? You can’t unknow what I’m about to show you?” He looked at me practically begging me to change my mind. It wasn’t going to happen. I had waited long enough for the truth. I vehemently nodded my head “I’m ready, quit stalling.” He removed the chain around his neck and used the small key on the chain to remove the padlock, the door creaked open slowly the noise was quite irritating that bad boy needed some grease on the hinges Parker thought to herself. As the lights flickered on and the room and its contents began to reveal itself. “What the hell..” I stood in shock, what was going on was Joey crazy was my uncle insane, this is where I die oh god this where it all ends. Shelves of books with titles that appeared to be of latin origin, maps, occult objects, and a wall of weapons. Oh Joey you’re crazy you’ve gone crazy. My legs refused to move forward. I was stuck, I was in shock and I was wondering how the hell to get out of there. The door slammed shut behind me, I twisted around my eyes wide with fear. The door had some strange symbol on it. f**k, I’m so gonna die tonight. “Parker, calm down I know this, it looks, just your parents they left you a video in case anything ever happened to them. Just, just watch the video sweetie.” His head once again hung down as moved forward pulling a disc from the desk and popping into the computer. He hit play and stepped aside. I still couldn’t move, my legs just weren’t listening to me. “Parker, Jason. If you’re watching this the worst has come to pass and we are no longer with you. We tried to keep you kids safe, protected but if you’re watching this now we failed you.” My mother spoke so calmly about her potential demise almost like she’d accepted it before it ever happened. My father began speaking. “Before we had you two, we had a different life, a more dangerous life, one we left behind for the two of you. A life we never wanted for you but you deserve to know the truth, I just pray you choose not to follow in our footsteps.” I was slowly moving forward towards the computer, towards my parents faces, towards their voices. My father continued to explain about how they were hunters but not the kind that hunts animals, demons, witches, ghosts, he just kept listing and my brain began to feel foggy. This isn’t real, it can’t be real. I could hear him continuing. “We did our best to hide us away, to hide you kids away from those who might seek revenge on us. I’m sorry, we’re so sorry we couldn’t keep you safe. All we ever wanted for you was to have a normal life.” That’s it nope, I pushed myself away from the computer turning and running from the room as fast as I could, running from the house into the trees and off into the woods. I could hear Joey calling my name but I couldn’t stop I wouldn’t . Hunters. I ran harder. Demons. I pushed my legs harder. Witches. I kept running my legs ready to give out from beneath. Ghosts. My legs collapsed from beneath me and I fell onto the ground. The tears poured from eyes like some sort of waterfall and I could feel it in my chest, this burning building feeling finally I let it go and screamed as loud as I could. How can this be real....
