(Avery)
Once I finished packing the bag, I decide on getting dressed, choosing something light but durable to make it through the woods around back. There was a landscape of trees accompanied by nothingness that seem to be the best place to hide out since it is within the range of camping grounds that my and dad had conquered when I was younger, but only until my mother has given up on finding me. I have no idea how long it would take but to say that it isn't worth a try would be dumb. Really f*****g dumb on my part. I'm about to grab my only jacket when the door is thrown open, and there stands my mom and a rough-looking man, she's facing him smiling and he's watching me slowly put my jacket on.
"I assure you that he is one of the best, the best actually, I just know you're gonna have a good time believe me." she turns and looks at me, and her smile falters, and then she loses it completely, "What are you doing Avery?" I hadn't realized the time had gone by that fast, if I did, I would have rushed the process and left before she brought him here, but unfortunately, I had forgotten there was even a time limit.
I watch on as she looks at me with such disdain in her eyes, and determination as well, and I just know that I won't be making it out of here easy, or even alive. Then she asks the question again and I answer confidently. "Leaving mother, I am tired of this." I sigh, surprised by my answer, I've never in my life disobeyed her, we both know this, and it explains why her mouth opens and closes a couple of times before she speaks.
"You think you can just leave, hmm? And is that that man's atrocious bag," and now it's her time to sigh, "listen to me young man, you are seventeen years old and as your mother you have no right to either speak to me the way you are or deny me, and I also decide whether or not you get to leave this room, this floor, or this house. And the answer is no, you are never leaving this place, now take off your clothes and go and prep yourself in the bathroom for this client you have here." She finishes as she forces the words out of her mouth and is pointing in his direction, her face is a bit red, she's angry, but because there is a client around, she prefers not to have them see that side of her.
With irritation also heavy in her expression, I notice that she wants me to, but I don't even look at the man again, I don't even glance at him, I just stand there as anger boils up in me, and I feel every inch of that scared boy from a week ago fade away. And as he should, I have to stand my ground, no one else is here is going to do it for me so I take a deep breath and I begin.
"You know what mother, you can go to hell, your disgusting, trifling attitude and selfish ways has caused me more pain than anyone my age or any should ever experience. You have made my life straight s**t ever since dad died and have made me feel like it has been my fault. And how can that be? He died from a heart attack for the love of God, and there's nothing both of us could've done to stop it, especially with how unexpected it was since he was young.
We both struggled with the loss, for weeks, not just you but I did too, but no, that doesn't matter does it, because what did you do next? You gathered every living inch of audacity within yourself to w***e me out to whichever man who'll give you the most money, not stopping to think how much this affects me since you would rather sacrifice your son's dignity than to get up off your ass to find a job that fits this perfect lifestyle that you present to everyone else!"
"You are the worst mother ever; you've never cared s**t about me until that night you let that man r**e me, taking my virtue for nothing but spare change. I was twelve mother! Twelve! I cannot begin to express how much you deserve to be locked up for all the s**t you let happen to me, and no matter how hard I try, I can't fathom how I'd be able to still be able to attend lunches with those b***h-of-a-housewives you hang around with or even just exist!
So instead of risking the chance of losing myself or becoming like you, I want to leave, no I am leaving, I am so so tired of this, I need to get out of here!" I begin to cry throwing my hands up in frustration because halfway through my rant I've come to realize that escaping won't be as easy as I had thought, she'll probably try to lock me in here with that man, allowing another chance of me getting violated again. I let my teary eyes drift over to the guy at the door, he seems to be very confused as to what is going on, the emotion demonstrated through his posture, even after hearing my sob story.
As my mother is about to open her manipulative mouth and I'm ready to roll my eyes, he opens his whilst raising his hand like a child and says, "Excuse my interruption, but" he puts on a stern face, "I paid in advance, a lot of money might I add for any evening of pleasure, so..." He looks between us, "Can I get what I paid for and go? I really don't want to be involved in your clearly unavoidable fight, stiff, or whatever you want to call it, I just want what I paid for and then I'll go. Seriously, then you can continue, whatever this is." he says as disinterested as possible and waving his hand wildly.
That gets me to stop crying to the point where I want to laugh, I wipe my eyes and begin glaring at him, he cannot be serious. This insufferable, raggedy, deranged pedophile wants to open his mouth, with no sympathy and pretend that he is not a part of the problem. I cannot believe that he thinks that I would be willing or even consider spreading my legs for him, the audacity within itself is stifling. Before I can ever respond my mother grunts out, "Well you heard the man, and we'll talk about this later, because this blatant disrespect is not okay, makes sure he gets the special today, you've caused enough trouble as is."
She turns to leave, and I calmly interrupt her. "No." Well, as calmly as an angry seventeen-year-old boy with the determination of any survivor can. "I won't do it, you heard that I was tired of it, I'm not doing it, you can serve him yourself since you won't be f*****g that married man anymore!" My head is abruptly thrown to the side, I blink a couple of times until I realize that the cause of it happening wasn't anything but my mother slapping me across the face.
I honest to God have no idea what is happening to me, but I allow the angry seventeen-year-old boy within me, plus the very-bruised-and-battered victim to react, I'm so angry, and I can't help it, raising my right hand high and return the favor, bringing it heavily down to the left. The air rushes out of my mother as she falls to the ground from the impact. She looks so helpless, breathing ― huffing, and puffing.
Where is all that feistiness, that dominance that she usually displays when she wants me to cower in her presence, the audacity that usually overcomes her and always made me into her puppet? Where is it? I need to see it, I need to feel it because deep down I am afraid, afraid of what my actions so far will lead to. I just slapped my mother, what will she do now, how will this affect my future if I don't successfully escape. What will I do?
Interrupting my thoughts, the guy rushes over to me, looking me dead in the eyes, challenging me. Then he says, "I don't care about what you do with her, but I still need to get what I came for." Gripping my arm, he tightens his hold to communicate his seriousness and I can't help but think about how dumb he is, that he thinks that this is still about to happen. Without holding back, I stepped forward and addressed him the way he did me, puffing my chest, I stand on my tiptoes, "You'll have to come and get it, bitch."
I watch as his expression slowly changes from surprise to anger to determination and before he can register my actions, I shove him as hard as I can muster. He stumbled backward and loses his focus on me, and I take advantage of that, grabbing my dad's bag and dashing out of the room. I make my way down the stairs and towards the front door, it's been a while since I've been outside, and feeling a little skeptical I begin to move back, panic rising within me, the anxiety for a while ago setting in again.
'What are you gonna do, you want to leave but you can't, can you?' My subconscious questions, I haven't been allowed to go outside in a while, years, and my body won't move no matter how much I command it to, I'm too scared. It's cloudy out today, the blindingly white walls within the house had told me differently, and one look at the dangerously dark sky has me wanting to cower back into the corner of the house, all my confidence fading away.
"Get back here you little b***h!" The man screams and that's all it took to get me moving. Stepping my foot outside I feel a surge of life flow through me, and I quickly pull the other leg forward. I begin running, straight out the front door, then swiftly around the corner of the house and make my way to the woods. It all seems so dark and lonely. Just like me, and instead of trying to escape the environment, I welcome it and the chance of freedom at last.
