Episode 5

Kael’s pov “Over my dead body would I let her stay in your chambers.” Ryen asserted, staring angrily at Drake. I leaned against the stone pillar, arms folded, watching the squabble unfold before me. “I admit that I never wanted her close to me, but now she looks all cleaned up…” Drake grinned devilishly. “I want to play with her.” “You nearly killed her! Do you know what the Lycan king would have done if he found out we manhandled his daughter?!” Ryen spoke nothing but facts. Amongst all of us he was the most reasonable. He did things according to the rules and never acted out of anger. Just then I sensed movements from the corner of my eyes. She was already waking up. I watched as she pushed herself upright slowly. Drake was still pacing around like a hungry beast while Ryen tried to talk sense into him. I never saw the need because Drake would always do what he wanted. No one could tame that beast, not me, not even our parents before they died. They finally noticed her presence when she winced as she tried curling her fingers around the iron rods. The cage was suspended just above the floor, thick chains anchoring it to the ceiling. It wasn’t made to make its prisoner feel comfortable. It was meant to remind them of how small and insignificant they were. Drake’s words not mine. But still, I liked the cage. Drake stopped pacing. His gaze snapped to her, dark and hungry. “Would you look at that,” he muttered. “I think I might have squeezed a little too hard, I just hope daddy won’t punish me.” He teased her. I rolled my eyes at how childish he could be during serious situations. Ryen on the other hand shot him a warning glance.”Enough.” She looked between us, confusion flickering into fear as if she had just realized where she was. Her throat bobbed as she swallowed. Probably still recovering from Drake’s scare. “P–Please…” she tried to speak but started coughing aggressively. I turned to Drake then and finally spoke. “You might have overdid it brother.” His smile faded instantly. Even though I wasn’t able to tame him, he knew better to challenge me or talk back. “So whose chambers would she be staying for the night?” Drake still wanted to win this argument. I exhaled through my nose. The argument had gone in circles for the past hour, and it bored me more than it angered me. “This is unnecessary,” I said flatly. “She doesn’t need to be in any of our chambers because she would be delivered to her father by dawn.” I reminded them. “Ryen’s head turned sharply. “And leave her here all night? She would get sick again?” “And why should that bother you?” Drake questioned. “She’s nothing but a leech, she is not going to be our mate. So whatever stupid feelings you are already harboring….you better flush it out. I will not accept her.” “But it is acceptable to toy with her all night?” Ryen shot back. “She’s not even an omega. If omegas can be used as nothing but s*x slaves, why should I not use her?” Drake yammered. Their voices clashed again. Drake wanted her close so he could break her and Ryen wanted her safe but at arms length. I just wanted her out of my territory and for this confusion to end. Her fingers tightened around the bars. “You have the wrong person. I have no home or family, not even a pack. So how would I be the daughter of the Lycan king?” Drake stepped forward, knuckles brushing the metal. “You fit every description given to us. Dark hair with silver streaks, homeless, packless, abandoned, an abomination. Blue eyes.” She shook her head banging on the gates. “Let me go! I don’t want to be here, please!” I got angry at her outburst and stepped closer to the cage. “We don’t want you here as well. So just shut your mouth and survive till we deliver you to your father tomorrow.” Before I could turn back she banged on the cage again. This time I didn’t just reach for her but dragged her forward and banged her whole body into the cage. The cage rattled violently, chains screaming overhead. Dust fell from the ceiling. Her hands slipped from the bars as the impact knocked some air out of her. Drake laughed low, showing approval for my outburst. “Kael!” Ryen warned. I held her gaze and to my surprise she didn’t look away. Her blue eyes burned under the moonlight, bright and challenging. My own widened for a fraction of a second before I buried the reaction beneath a blank expression. “Speak,” I ordered coldly, addressing the guard stationed just outside the cell. He cleared his throat. “A message arrived from the Lycan king. He requests a delay in the arrangements and commands that his daughter remain under your protection for thirty additional days before his arrival.” Pen cursed under his breath. Drake let out a low amused laugh. “Well, this just keeps getting better, doesn’t it, brothers?” I kept her pinned close to the bars, her scent clouding my thoughts in a way I refused to acknowledge. But what unsettled me more was her stare which was filled with raw hatred. No one had ever met my eyes like that. Not even my own brothers. It stirred something sharp and unfamiliar inside me. I didn’t break eye contact as I spoke. “Inform the maidens…” my voice remained steady. “She’ll be held in my chamber prison.” Drake might be very right for once. Things did keep getting better.
