It has been a month since my father passed away. I've been looking into this Mr. Nico, but it seems as though he doesn't exist. There is nothing online about him. If I had known his initial name, it could have been simpler.
Mr. Alessandro has yet to inform me whether he will assist me. I'm beginning to lose hope.
After a time, I woke up and made the decision to really take a shower and get ready. I might have my sister walk with me just to get our minds off things.
Since our father's passing, my sister and mom have been dealing with a lot. I have been feeding them and cooking for them.
I put on a comfortable outfit.
My sister assisted me in doing my hair because that was the only way I could persuade her to accompany me. I didn't regret it at all. Since I've always admired her fashion.
We both down the stairs and rummage through the kitchen for a quick bite to eat before leaving. When the doorbell rings, I grab a breakfast bar.
As I try to open the door, I gag while eating my breakfast bar.
MRS. ALESSANDRO was there. I wasn't sure whether I should be relieved that he had decided to give me his response or furious with him for how he had treated me on the day of the incident.
Just like the other day, he was donning an almost identical black suit, but this one also contained a tint of grey. His hair was styled nicely, just like that day, and I could smell his new perfume.
I apologized after I was able to stop coughing, and he nodded as usual in response.
Don't you think I should be invited inside? He queried. I considered asking him why he was here but refrained.
"Oh yeah, come on in." I remarked clearing the way so he could enter.
He took a seat on the couch, and I took a seat next to him. Then, my mother comes in, acting bewildered but soon putting a smile on her face. She sits next to me while they exchange greetings.
"Okay, Miss Allegra." I considered your offer, and. Mr. Alessandro is interrupted by my mum, and he doesn't seem too happy about it.
"What is your offer?" Mom queries.
Oh, mama," Mr. Alessandro was tasked with helping me find dad's killer. Mom nodded as I continued.
"And I concur." When Mr. Alessandro speaks, I immediately smile.
Really, gosh, thanks so much. He interrupts me
"Not so fast; as I said, I'll need something in return." I nod as he says it seriously.
I was worried about what he would request. He is wealthy, after all, so whatever money he requests would likely be in excess of anything I could ever hope to earn in a lifetime.
When Mr. Alessandro begins to speak, he places a contract on the table, and I take it.
"If I consent to assist you..
You must get married to me.
My reaction to Mr. Alessandro's remarks was amazement.
Why should he wed me, you ask? I am an ordinary girl. Why should he marry me when he might find the most beautiful, wealthy girl in the world?
The girls swoon over him, I mean. Why then does he not have a relationship?
"The agreement will ensure that I fulfill my commitment." he claims.
I required solutions.
I asked, "Why do you want to marry me?"
"Because you want revenge, and I need a wife." He says incoherently.
I reasoned that this isn't the response to my query.
So, he needs a wife, so we would get married? not since he adores me? perhaps even likes me? What if he's merely using me? But at least my dad will receive his comeuppance. Because he is a businessman, he cannot break a contract.
I turn to face my mother.
"What do you think, mom?" I ask.
"It's your life, Camilla; you get to decide. However, if you're unsure about whether you can trust Mr. Alessandro, I can assure you that you can. He defended your father for a long time. Mom tells me.
So why did he ultimately fail? My dad could be expected to be attacked in a ball, right? Right?
"Ok..
I say, "I'll do it," and when I turn to face Mr. Alessandro, he merely nods once again.
Even though I don't even know this man, I've decided to wed him. Maybe I've lost my mind. Hope everything goes as smoothly as butter. (smoothly)
Mr. Alessandro stands up and moves aside to sit next to me. He then pulls out a pen and signs the documents. then hands me the pen, and all I can think about as I sign is getting back at my father.
His hands are in his pockets as he stands up.
Okay, let's move on now that this is finished, he says.
"Go? bewildered, I say, "go where."
He utters "to my house" incoherently.
"Do I have to move in, and if so, why now?" I turn to gaze at Mr. Alessandro, who sighs and appears frustrated.
"You need to perform all of your responsibilities as my wife; you'll have to move in anyhow, so it's best to do it now rather than later. Don't debate about this, please. We must deal with your dad's situation as well. If we live together, it will be simpler. he claims.
The most I believe I've ever heard him say was this.
My mother stroked my arm, and when I looked at her, she nodded.
As I stood up, I said, "Okay, let me go pack."
He says, "No need, I have everything you could possibly need," as he moves toward the door.
I give my mother and sister short hugs. My mother cautions me, and I nod in agreement.
"Call me if he does anything, and I'll beat him." I chuckle as my sister says this.
He is already in the back as I exit the building and enter. He makes no attempt to recognize my existence.
As soon as the driver gets behind the wheel, I realize how drastically my life will change.
