Callum remained standing in the living room long after Mia disappeared behind her bedroom door. The bouquet sat untouched on the table, the pale pink peonies he’d picked out only hours ago looking painfully out of place. He let out a slow breath and sank onto the couch, dragging a hand over his face. It had happened again. For one brief moment, he’d thought they were finally finding their way back to each other.
