The Hartleys had already headed down to Oxford to make the final arrangements for the big day so it was left to Matthias, Charley, Tilly and me to represent—well, I was not entirely sure what we represented exactly—to make up the expatriate New York contingent. We could hear the strains of the party, sporadically overlaid with Dr. Bommel’s distinctive bellows of “Rob! Amy! Hannah! Daniel! Disni! Ashley! Jayden! Take a look at this! Jared! Deborah! Sharon! What happened to—” to his clan of ducklings, from down the corridor as we approached the suite of the Dowager Countess de Clermont de Montm
