FINDING WAYS

2014 Words
As soon as Aria got into the house, she went directly to her mom's room. She knew their Nanny, Mrs. Sarah, would be in the kitchen, so she went to see her mom in the room instead. "Was the interview successful?" Her mom spoke softly. "No, Mom. I would have to report back to the agency tomorrow." She answered calmly. "Aria, you have tried enough. Why don't you rest for a while?" She said again. "Mom, we need to take you for surgery before it becomes worse, and we need money. Dad's health insurance company is making things difficult for me each time I go there. So, I need to get a job as soon as I can." She said this time, quickly. "I know all this, but don't worry yourself to death, Aria. You are too young and you are losing your beautiful stamina already. I don't want to see you sick, okay?" Her mom still spoke gently. As much as she was sounding strong and it looked like she was consoling her daughter, her heart was heavy. Amelia Colton had been a very vibrant mother, even though she had lost several children before she finally gave birth to Aria. While she badly needed a child back then, she recalled her husband, Leo Colton, was always supporting her. She smiled bitterly as the memories came rushing in like a tidal wave. Leo was everything she ever needed in a man. Although it took them a while to have Aria, the man was always beside her, and she was very grateful for that. She'd recall how he had promised to give Aria the best as long as he lived. Of course, he had fulfilled that until the day their car got engulfed in fire while they were coming back from Richvale Community Centre. It was a day Mrs. Amelia will never forget, but she wished she could forget. Their car had burnt so much that the only thing she remembered was that she became conscious after two months. Her heart ached so much when she woke up and Aria told her her dad was dead. The pain she felt for the burns on her skin could not be quantified by the ire she felt after hearing that she had lost the one man who meant so much to her. It took her months to stop the tears, but she had to because it was already affecting Aria. As she looks at how perfect Aria has grown and how much she has been striving to ensure her surgery is done, she feels better. But most times, her heart still ached at the thought of what her daughter was passing through. So, she had no choice but to encourage her to rest. "Mom, you don't need to think too much about all this. We will figure a way out. I promise, we will schedule your surgery sooner than you think, but please, don't get yourself worked up, okay?" Mrs. Amelia smiled, hearing these words of comfort from her daughter. That is the good thing about the life she is living now–Aria is the best thing the universe left her with. "Go take a shower and come to the dining room. I will check to see if Mrs. Sarah is done with dinner." "Alright, mom. I will join you shortly." She said as she trotted to her room. As Aria got under the shower, she allowed the water to splash freely on her, as she massaged her nape. Yes, it has been a very long, hard day for her. She recalled how she was hopeful about the job because the outsourcing agency told her she was qualified. Then, everything came crashing like broken pieces of glasses when she was told that although she knows the work, they need to see her certificate. She felt broken at that instant. If one knows and could do a job, why is a certificate a necessity? Are they in third-world countries where she was told that they value certificates over knowledge? She didn't even know she was crying and walking on the road, neither did she even know when she fainted in front of that car. Remembering the car and the owner even made her angrier. "That man is too rude..' she thought to herself. "He even had the effrontery to tell me that I was audacious? Who has more guts between the both of us?' she asked again. "Men these days are so full of themselves, especially if they are from wealthy families." She mumbled again. She was lost in her reverie when she heard a knock on her door. "Aria, your food would get cold again." "I will join you soon, mom. I took time in the bathroom because I needed a relaxing bath." She said, to earn a chuckle from her mom. She quickly cleaned the water from her body, wore her link pajamas went to join her mom in the dining room. They all ate quietly, including Mrs. Sarah. The woman has long been living with them, even before her dad passed on. Although they have not been paying her so much yet, she decided she would still work for them. So, they all have been living like a family. After dinner, Aria thanked her mom and Mrs. Sarah before going to her room. As she got to her room, she thought of calling Mia, but she gave up the idea. She was sure that Mia will be in a bar, looking for a boyfriend. Just the thought of how she makes her face sour whenever she sulks about not having a boyfriend made Aria laugh. Well, a boyfriend might be a good thing, just like her friend told her, but that is the least of her worries. She needs to get a job, and that has to happen very soon. She turned off her light and slept early. Tomorrow, she will go back to the outsourcing agency. Back to Rockcliffe Park Kayden lay on the bed fuming as he recalled how sternly his father spoke to him. He wouldn't have even flared up to this extent if his father understood him. He knew his mom was always been an emotional woman, not thinking deep before making decisions, but this is about the woman he was f*****g going to get married to. So, he was thinking his dad, who is a man, would understand him. But again, his dad disappointed him woefully. "It's high time I moved out of this house." He mumbled. But again, he had tried that in the past, but his mom won't let him. He has a property at Thunder Bay. He could move there. Then, his father has houses scattered across megacities in Canada, but his mom or dad won't let him stay alone. "I am a freaking twenty-eight-year-old man, not a baby. So, won't they let me live my life?" He asked no one in particular. He was still fuming when his phone rang. He checked his caller ID, and it was Riley. He had told this girl to stop calling him for today, but she wouldn't listen. He ignored the call after two rings but the call came in again the third time… "I have told you to stop calling me Riley. Why can't you get that into your f*****g skull? If I wanna hear from you, I will call you. I am the man. Let me do the chasing. And one more thing, if I hear anything from my mom about this call, I will not take it lightly with you." He hung up abruptly and tossed his phone to the other side of his bed. He took several pillows and placed them over his head. Even if his mom cried, he will surely not open the door for him today. He has had enough. He needed to sleep so that he could rest his head from all the day's trouble. At Riley's home in Orleans It was enough humiliation that her supposed boyfriend did not make things official between them. His mom had assured her earlier that he would do that and that's why they had hired the paparazzo and the reporter. But all that went down the drain. Regardless of how she felt, she still put her dignity aside and called him, but he yelled and cursed at her before disconnecting the call. Yes, he was right. The man does the chasing, but she doesn't mind chasing Kayden. They are from the same social class. He is rich, intelligent, witty and, to top it all, he is hot. They have had several wonderful sexes, and she was beginning to look forward to their moments together. But the young man was not ready to get committed. Twenty-eight is still young for a man, but she must not let her guards down, else Kayden might like someone else. Or another person might pursue Kayden, too. Kayden's mom has told her to act shamelessly around him. She had even told her to move in with him to Rockcliffe Park, but her dad was against it. She still recalls how her dad told her to allow Kayden to do the chasing, but she loved listening to Kayden's mom when it came to her relationship with Kayden. The truth is, she wasn't lacking when it comes to admirers, but none of them had half of what she saw in Kayden. So, she will make sure he makes things official between them. "He said he enjoyed our s*x, right?' she thought If that would be the only way to make him accept to make us an official couple, then she was willing to give him many hot, steamy sessions. She was young, no doubt. But every young woman needs a reliable man like Kayden and it is better she makes hay while she still has time and his mother's support. For Riley, she doesn't want the best beach wedding ever, but she also wants to do it with Kayden. She could already envisage herself being the talk of the time among her friends once she succeeded in making Kayden her's. She won't even mind getting pregnant for him, but the guy was always using protection whenever they had s*x. Well, whatever it takes to make Kayden Hunter hers, she was willing to give it. Back At Rockcliffe Park Maybe he had slept for an hour or two, but he woke up immediately because he was having a terrible dream. That was a terrible dream because there was nowhere he would ever have anything to do with the girl from earlier. He recalled the dream vividly. He was sick and helpless. His body temperature was so high that the girl had to dab his body with a towel soaked in very cold water. Then, his temperature became better after a while. He had slept after that, but he woke up again and saw the girl sleeping on the side of his bed. He had spent time admiring her amber eyes and wavy, dark hair. He had stayed like that for a while until she moved and bit her lips. His breath hitched immediately and his heart pulsated. Without thinking too much about it, he had kissed her so deep until she had woken up, and he had pretended to be asleep. "How in the world will I kiss her? How did she even manage to invade my dreams? There is no way I am seeing her again, not to talk of having anything to do with her, okay?" He shouted. He has had a long day and his parents have even complicated things by not letting him enjoy his dinner. Now, he was starving, and that led to the silly dream he had. "Only hungry people have such bizarre dreams…' he thought. "As much as I am mad at Riley, I must find a way to see her. I need to unwind. I know what she loves, so I will get her. I must find a way to see her." He mumbled.
