Scarlett POV
The sun dipped below the horizon, casting long shadows across the sprawling campus of Veridian Crown University. Scarlett Hayes hurried across the courtyard, her books clutched tightly to her chest. Each step was measured, each glance over her shoulder instinctively cautious. She had learned quickly — this school didn't reward naivety, and she was determined to survive.
Her phone buzzed again, the screen lighting up with another cryptic message.
*Unknown Number: Tonight, choices will be tested. Your next move could cost you everything.
Scarlett's heart skipped. The warnings weren't just vague anymore — they were specific. Someone was watching, manipulating, orchestrating events she barely understood. And somehow, Dominic Kingsley was always at the center of it.
She arrived at the library to find Alexander already there, his calm presence a welcome relief.
"You're late," he said softly, his eyes flicking toward her with concern.
"I… lost track of time," Scarlett replied, forcing a small smile.
Alexander studied her carefully. "Be careful, Scarlett. He's testing you more than you realize."
Scarlett's pulse quickened. "I can handle him," she said, though the edge in her voice betrayed the truth. She wasn't sure she could.
Meanwhile, Dominic Kingsley watched her from the shadows of the library balcony. His dark eyes followed every move Scarlett made. She had no idea how much power she had over him — not power in the sense of control, but the power to unsettle him, to break through the walls he had built over years of neglect and manipulation.
Julian Cross lounged near the entrance, smirking at Dominic. "She's stubborn," he said.
"She's… intriguing," Dominic muttered under his breath.
Victor Kane, standing silently behind, observed in his usual calculated way. "Careful. Curiosity has consequences," he said simply.
Alexander's presence near Scarlett was noted by Dominic, but he didn't let it distract him. Not yet.
Later that evening, Scarlett was summoned to the student council chambers — Dominic's territory. Her pulse raced as she entered. The large room was dimly lit, and Dominic sat at the head of the polished oak table, fingers steepled. Julian and Victor flanked him like guardians of some unspoken order.
"Scarlett Hayes," Dominic said, his tone cold and commanding. "You've made yourself… visible. And that's dangerous."
Scarlett squared her shoulders. "I'm not invisible," she said. "I have a right to exist here like anyone else."
Dominic's eyes narrowed. "Bold," he said, his voice almost a whisper. "Dangerously bold. That defiance… it intrigues me."
Julian chuckled quietly. "She's going to be fun," he said, smirking.
Victor's eyes, however, remained neutral — analyzing every twitch, every movement. He didn't speak, but his silent judgment felt heavier than Julian's teasing.
Alexander, who had quietly followed Scarlett, placed a reassuring hand on her arm. "Don't let him intimidate you," he said softly. "He's dangerous, yes, but you're not alone."
Dominic leaned back in his chair, the faintest smirk tugging at his lips. "You're clever, Scarlett," he said. "And I appreciate cleverness. But cleverness can be a trap."
Scarlett didn't flinch. "Then I'll be careful."
Dominic's eyes glinted with something unreadable. "Good. But know this — survival here isn't just about intelligence or courage. It's about understanding the rules… and sometimes, bending them."
As Scarlett left the council chambers, her mind raced. What rules? Whose rules? And why did Dominic's presence make her pulse quicken, even as fear threatened to creep in?
Her phone buzzed again.
*Unknown Number: Tonight, the game begins. Trust no one completely. Choices are not reversible.
Scarlett's hand trembled. Whoever was sending these messages was either Dominic — or someone who knew him very well. And the fact that she couldn't tell which terrified her most.
That night, a gala was held in the main campus hall — a gathering for students and visiting sponsors. Scarlett, dressed in a simple but elegant gown, felt every pair of eyes on her the moment she stepped in. The wealth, the luxury, the poised confidence of her peers — it was overwhelming.
Dominic appeared suddenly at her side. "You shouldn't have worn that," he murmured, voice low enough for only her to hear. "It draws attention… the wrong kind."
"I don't need protection," Scarlett replied, meeting his gaze evenly.
His dark eyes lingered on her, unreadable, and for the briefest moment, Scarlett felt an undeniable pull — a dangerous mix of fear and fascination.
Alexander appeared a few steps behind, concern etched in every line of his face. "He's… unpredictable," he whispered. "Just… be careful."
Scarlett nodded, though her heart betrayed her calm exterior. She realized something about Dominic — it wasn't just power that drew her attention. It was the danger, the unpredictability, the intensity that seemed to surround him like a storm.
As the gala progressed, whispers followed Scarlett. Students noticed the tension between her and Dominic, Julian's amused smirk, Victor's calculating gaze, and Alexander's silent protection.
But the real danger wasn't visible — it was subtle, like shadows stretching across the room, waiting to catch her off guard.
Later that night, Scarlett returned to her dorm, exhausted. Her phone buzzed one last time.
*Unknown Number: The first move has been made. Decide wisely. One wrong step… and it could all fall apart.*
Scarlett's heart raced. The warnings had escalated. The game had begun. And she realized with a sinking feeling that Dominic wasn't just an opponent — he was a force, unpredictable and all-consuming.
And she was caught in the center.
Across the campus, Dominic Kingsley watched from his suite balcony, a glass of whiskey in hand. He didn't understand why his thoughts refused to leave Scarlett Hayes. She had crossed a line, yet he couldn't stop thinking about her, couldn't stop planning his next move.
Julian and Victor noticed the tension in him — the flicker of obsession — but they didn't comment. This was Dominic Kingsley. No one interfered once the game had begun.
Alexander, however, was unaware of how dangerously deep Dominic's fascination had already g
rown. And Scarlett… Scarlett was walking blindly into a storm. She had no idea how to survive.
