*Episode 6:The Aftermath*
The city was bathed in the warm glow of dawn as Jack and Sarah walked away from the clock tower. The air was crisp and clean, filled with the scent of wet earth and ozone. The sounds of the city were awakening, a cacophony of horns, sirens, and chatter that filled the air.
As they walked, Jack couldn't shake the feeling that the case was far from over. Angela's plans had been foiled, but he knew that she wasn't the only one involved. There were still too many unanswered questions, too many loose ends.
"What do you think Angela's real plan was?" Sarah asked, breaking the silence.
Jack shook his head, his eyes scanning the rooftops. "I don't think we'll ever know for sure. But I do know that she was just a pawn in a much larger game."
Sarah nodded, her eyes narrowed in thought. "I agree. There's someone else pulling the strings, someone who's been manipulating Angela and the girls all along."
Jack's eyes locked onto hers. "You think it's someone in the police department?"
Sarah's expression was grim. "I don't know, but we need to find out. We need to dig deeper, uncover the truth."
As they walked, they were met with a mixture of cheers and curious stares from the gathering crowd. The news of Angela's defeat had spread quickly, and the city was abuzz with excitement.
But Jack and Sarah knew that the real work was just beginning. They had to uncover the truth behind Angela's plans, and bring those responsible to justice.
As they reached the police station, Jack's phone buzzed again. He pulled it out, his eyes scanning the screen.
"It's the chief," Jack said, his voice tight with tension. "He wants to see us in his office, now."
Sarah's eyes narrowed. "What do you think he wants?"
Jack shook his head. "I don't know, but I have a feeling we're about to find out."
They made their way to the chief's office, their minds racing with possibilities. As they entered, the chief looked up, his expression serious.
"Jack, Sarah, I need to talk to you about Angela's case," he said, his voice firm.
Jack and Sarah exchanged a look, their eyes locked in a silent understanding.
"What's going on, chief?" Jack asked, his voice even.
The chief leaned back in his chair, his eyes narrowed in thought. "I've been going over the evidence, and I think there's more to this case than we initially thought."
Sarah's eyes flashed with interest. "What do you mean?"
The chief's expression was grim. "I think Angela was telling the truth. I think there is a larger organization involved, one that's been manipulating her and the girls all along."
Jack's eyes locked onto the chief's. "What makes you think that?"
The chief leaned forward, his eyes locked onto Jack's. "Because I've been receiving threats, Jack. Threats against you and Sarah, against the police department. Someone doesn't want us digging deeper into this case."
Sarah's eyes narrowed. "Who is it?"
The chief shook his head. "I don't know, but I have a feeling we're about to find out."
As the chief finished speaking, Jack's phone buzzed again. He pulled it out, his eyes scanning the screen.
"It's a message from an unknown sender," Jack said, his voice tight with tension.
Sarah's eyes locked onto his. "What does it say?"
Jack's eyes scanned the screen, his heart racing with anticipation.
"It says, 'Meet me at the old warehouse at midnight. Come alonr
