Chapter 8The answer to Jehan’s question was resolved sooner than expected when Gregory was summoned by a serving boy to William’s house on Holborn. He and Jehan had just finished lugging a delivery of sacks and boxes into the storeroom.
“I have my particular way of arranging new stock that you’ll learn in good time,” Jehan reassured him, “and you have more urgent business. Go and see William and put his mind at ease.”
Brushing down his dark blond hair and straightening his cap, Gregory set off for Holborn, letting the boy dart ahead of him since he needed no guide. He didn’t grudge lending William his assistance, but Gregory only hoped he hadn’t wavered in his decision to stand firm against Gilbert’s demands.
