Finally the day was over and I had never been so grateful to clock out in all my life. I had survived. I am superwoman, I thought to myself, hear me roar. Or whatever the hell she said.
I was trying to untie my apron but I had somehow managed to get it into a knot. Looking down I pressed my palm to my forehead. This was just the kind of thing that gave people ammo to use against me. Sighing, I asked Katie for help and she had me out of it in no time.
She had come back shortly after leaving and returned with her hair pulled up in a messy bun with an outfit matching mine.
“Thank you” I told her as I pulled it over my head.
“No problem” she smiled at me kindly before returning to the guy flirting with her in front of the counter.
How nice that must be just having someone trip all over their words while trying to talk to you. It had never actually happened to me but most likely it was due to my actual tripping. Guys didn’t usually go for the girl that was most likely to lead them into certain death. Or at the very least, a trip to the hospital. No, they wanted the girl that had her life together that could dress nicely and follow makeup tutorials without having their eyelashes glued halfway up their eyelids. Sighing, I stopped watching them. I would never be that girl.
I was in the middle of clocking out and about to leave when Christopher poked his head out of his office.
“Hey you” he said, startling me so bad I knocked the cup of ink pens off the counter beside the computer.
I leaned down to pick them up but Christopher beat me to it and was quickly putting them back in the cup.
“Thank you. You didn’t have to help me.” I told him, feeling like a fool for having done that to begin with. Life was never on my side. “I’m a bit of a klutz sometimes.”
He smiled at me showing those adorable little eye crinkles as he did.
“It’s not a problem, I’m a bit clumsy myself sometimes.”
I c****d my head to the side and looked at him. He did not seem the type to be all over the place knocking s**t over. Maybe this was just one of those times when people say things to make you feel better when you’ve just made a fool out of yourself.
“I doubt that.” I told him, straightening up and watching as he placed the pens back in their designated spot.
“Oh it’s most definitely true. One time I even fell down an escalator because I didn’t realize it was going up. I kept trying to go down and it fought against me and finally it won. That’s why I don’t talk on the phone near any type of stairs anymore.”
This was the most ridiculous story I had heard. No way had it actually happened.
I laughed. “I don’t believe you. You don’t have to make up stories to try to make me feel better.” I assured him.
“Oh no, it actually happened. Scouts honor.” He placed his hand against his chest and his face turned completely serious.
Wow. This guy may be in worse condition than me if that actually happened.
“Well then, I guess I’ll overlook your clumsiness if you’ll overlook mine.”
He held his hand out and we shook.
“Deal. Now, can you come into my office please?”
