“For your information, we didn’t even talk about you” I lied hoping that he hadn’t been listening to the whole conversation. “You are literally the last thing on my mind.” I huffed and walked over to the register, hoping a customer would come in. I tried to use the force to bring someone through the door but clearly that was not real. Maybe if I had a light saber I could clip Leo. Alas, such things only happened in a galaxy far far away. “Oh but I’m sure you did. I bet I stay on your mind every second of the day and when you’re not thinking of me, you’re complaining about me.” The audacity! Who the hell did he think he is? I had asked myself this question more than once. “I barely even know you!” I shouted, throwing my hands up in frustration. “All I know is I come here to work so that I can pay my bills and you act like a complete asshole the entire day that you were supposed to be training me. No wonder nobody wants to stick around and work with you!” I knew instantly I had given away that Christopher and I had spoken about him; at least about why people didn’t stay. He glared at me, his jaw tight. “You don’t know a damn thing about me or why people don’t stay. I think it’s best you just keep your comments and assumptions to yourself. And next time you and Christopher decide to s**t talk me, go ahead and bring me back there and I’ll give you my side of the story as well.” Throwing the rag down onto the counter he walked out the front door. I watched as he headed to his truck and opening the door got inside. Suddenly I was filled with panic; he wouldn’t leave me here by myself would he? Five minutes went by and he still wasn’t back in. Luckily he hadn’t left but he also made no attempt to leave his truck. I was just about to go talk to Christopher to see what needed to be done in case he did leave, when the older lady from the day before came in. This time without her husband. “Hello dear” she smiled at me in a grandmotherly type of way. “I’m happy to see you’re back here today.” “I didn’t know if I would be honestly. I’ve already upset Leo this morning.” She nodded at me. “I saw him outside in his truck when I pulled up. He did seem a bit upset but still smiled and waved at me. He’s a good boy.” Was this lady joking? Did she know the same guy I was referring to? Maybe he treated his customers differently so that they would tip him better. He knew I wouldn’t give him money so maybe he through there was no reason to waste his time on being nice to me. “Go easy on him; he doesn’t have a lot of kindness in his life. He’s been through a lot at such a young age.” “How old is he anyway?” I had wondered but didn’t want to ask and get yelled at for worrying about things that were none of my business. “I believe he just turned twenty seven.” She hesitated in thought for a moment and I remained quiet. “Yes that’s it, he just had a birthday not too long ago. Brought a cake for all of us to share with him.” That was shocking. Leo could be nice?
