Gina's pov
I know. I am selfish. I am using Jeffrey to maintain my inheritance. But what can I do? I could not use George or any of my boyfriends. Father would have seen right through me. But he knows Jeff and he trusts him, that is why I decided to use him. Jeffrey is a great guy and I know he has feelings for me. But I don't have the same for him. I love him, I do. But, not the way he would have wanted me to.
I was sitting in my office, when Anna, my friend and personal assistant walked in.
"I just came here to remind you of your three o'clock appointment. And also, you have dinner with the Chinese investor at six. He says you should not keep him waiting." She said as she went through my schedules.
I was nodding though, but nothing was entering my ears. I was too distracted to focus on anything. That was when I heard a sudden bang on my table making me jump back. I touched my chest in the hopes of steadying my rapidly beating heart.
I glared at the young lady before me. She has her hands crossed around her chest, with a frown on her face.
"What was that for?"
"You have been distracted. Do you know how many times I have been calling your name? What are you thinking about?"
I sighed. "It's my dad."
Her features slowly softened and she quickly sat down on the chair in front of me.
"What happened?"
"Just the usual. He wants me to get married and give him grandchildren that will carry on with his legacy. I have told him several times that I am not ready to get married now but he still insists."
"I don't blame him. You are 30. Any father would be worried if his successful daughter isn't married yet at that age."
I opened my mouth and stared at her. "Who still thinks like that in this day and age? It's the 21st century for Christ sakes."
"Apparently, your father does. So I guess you should do what he asks of you. I don't think it's anything that hard for you to do."
I sighed again and leaned against the chair I was seated on.
"There is more, isn't there?" Anna asked.
I nodded. "He is threatening to take away my inheritance if I don't get married within the next six months."
"What! But, isn't that too extreme?"
"That is the condition he gave me. I have no choice than to do what he says." I explained.
"So, what are you going to do? Are you going to ask George to marry you?"
I rolled my eyes. Why did she have to bring him up?
"George is too immature and arrogant. I do agree he is very good in bed. In fact, he knows how to make me c*m in ways I never thought of, but he and I are nothing more than just lovers who just love to f**k each other. That's all."
Anna had a disgusted look on her face. "First of all, I really did not need to know all that. And secondly, I don't think George sees you as just a woman he wants to sleep with or enjoys sleeping with. I think he really loves and cares about you. Maybe you should give him a chance."
I shook my head. "No. I don't need George. He will ruin everything once he does not get what he wants. And as I said, I don't like him that way."
"So, what are you going to do now? What's your plan?"
"Well, I have already decided to speak to someone about this. No, I have actually worked out everything with this person. And I believe everything will go smoothly."
"Who?"
I looked at her and smiled. "Jeffrey."
"Wait! Are you talking about the same Jeffrey who works for your father? The one who seems to have a crush on you?"
Yes. All my friends know Jeffrey has a crush on me. I always pretend not to notice though. As I said, Jeff is a nice guy but I don't want to be in a relationship with him and hurt him. I don't like doing long term relationships, that is why I normally settle for one night stands.
"You did not ask him to do you any favors, did you?"
I nodded with a silly smile on my face.
"What? But why him? You don't even like him that way." She reminded me, while I just rolled my eyes.
"Yes I don't. But my father trusts him. And he also knows him. So, if I tell him that Jeff and I are dating, he will believe us. Besides, Jeff is really responsible. And that is the kind of man my father wants me to marry."
"So how is this going to work out?"
"I am going to marry him. It's not going to be real, it's just going to be under contract." I explained to her.
"I don't think that is a good idea. Somebody is going to get hurt from this. And your father? If he ever finds out, he will be very mad at you."
"I can take my father being mad at me. Besides, he is not going to find out. Jeff and I know what to do to make him never suspect us. What else can go wrong?"
"I don't like this. I don't like this at all," she shook her head in disapproval.
"Trust me. I know what I am doing. Everything will be fine." I said confidently.
"You might think everything is going to be fine. But in the end, think about all those people who might get hurt if things don't go according to your plan. And don't forget that Jeff does have a crush on you. And I know you know that. Doing that to him is selfish. Think through this before you do anything."
She was right. I had to think through it all. But, my mind was already made up. And there is no way I was going to allow my inheritance to be stripped from me. If this is the only way out, I will take it. It's not like I have any other options here.
"I will think about it, Anna. Thank you."
"Alright I will be at my desk if you need me." She said and walked out of the room.
I just sighed and leaned back on my chair, deep in thoughts.
