Amullette's POV
As Amullette watched the sunrise once again through Earth's endlessly dark and gloomy atmosphere, she tried to remember the first time she saw it that way. She had been captured on a flight to Earth after years on the run from the Universal. Her father, once the Universal's most celebrated soldier, had been accused of treason and in merciless retribution; their entire colony was invaded and destroyed.
When the Universal captured her years later, they'd kept her in what they called the hole for three days with no food and no water. When the door to the hole was finally opened, she was escorted to the showers and given a muddy brown prison-issue uniform and hard plastic brown shoes.
