Ayla didn't sign up to be the personal assistant to someone like Lucas but in two days, she had turned into his full-time personal assistant.
Lucas’ SUV slid into the front of his company and Ayla walked out to get the door for him, he thrust the files he was holding into her hands and strode to the door.
Ayla tried to balance the weight of her handbag on her shoulder, her tablet, and the files he had given her on her hand as she raced after him into the company.
Lucas walked as if he had just stepped down from the sky, his hands tucked casually into his trousers, his long legs pushing forward like scissors and his shoulder held up high.
Ayla scurried closely behind him, breathing heavily and hoping they got to his office before she passed out.
She wondered how a man would find so much joy and relaxation in making a lady carry such a load.
As he walked down the staff quarter, there was a wave of murmuring, Ayla noticed the stares the female workers cast at him as they pretended to be busy with work.
He was very much aware of their stares and practically walked in the clouds.
“Oh my God, he's looking so handsome today" A red-headed woman gushed a whisper.
" I wish he could just notice me already"
“I've worked here for almost two years and he doesn't even know who I am”
" He's just so cute, I wish we could get married" Another contributed dreamily.
Ayla snorted in disgust, he was handsome no doubt but she would rather break into two before she acknowledged to his face that he was handsome.
She knew very well that he could hear them as he brought out his phone and scrolled through it, his or her hand still tucked in his pocket.
But then the whispers took another turn as they noticed her trailing him, she felt rather than saw their sharp gazes as they pierced into her.
“Who is that?" A lady snapped.
“Why is she following him that way?"
“I think she works here now, I'm afraid she's his assistant or something”
" Jeez, why is she dressed that way? Does she want to seduce him?”
Ayla would have almost stopped and flashed the person that made that last sentence a killer look but she couldn't afford to be one step behind.
She rolled her eyes and snorted again, Seduce him? She would rather jump into a septic tank than think of doing that.
Lucas strode to the elevator and punched a button, the doors parted and she quickly slid in before it could close, she heaved a sigh of relief.
He shoved his phone into his pocket now, staring at the door In silence as the elevator took them upwards.
Ayla stood so close beside him and his scent drifted into her nostrils, she was literally reaching his shoulders, and standing so close beside him made her smaller than she was.
“So heavy," Ayla muttered, trying to balance the weight of the files on her tired arms.
He looked over his shoulder at her,” Did you make a sound?"
Ayla rolled her eyes angrily, she wondered if he had to sound so rude through the rest of his rich life. She doubts if something nice can come out of his mouth.
“Nothing," She muttered under her breath.
The doors parted with a pang and in a snap, Lucas was out and stretching his long legs forward as he strode out, walking through the corridor and towards his office.
Ayla followed him closely, almost tripping in her steps as she hurried after him.
He got into his office, almost banging the door in her face when he knew she was coming behind him. Ayla sighed and pushed the door open with her shoulder.
He was already seated on his swivel by the time she got in and she dumped the files on his desk, rubbing her tired arms.
“ You should have least slowed down, your office isn't running” Ayla muttered quietly sure that he heard it
“You have lots of things to do today, Miss Morrison. Those files are twenty in number so if you dropped any along the way, you'd be giving yourself more work” He said
“We just got here, can't I at least catch my breath?" Ayla snapped.
" What have you been doing standing there? Catching gas?” He snapped back.
He stared at her then, from head to toe and back again, she had to look down at her clothes as he did, wondering if something had spilled on her.
“Why are you dressed like this?" He asked.
Ayla looked over her normal work clothes, she found nothing, absolutely nothing wrong with the silly blouse and straight trousers.
“And how am I dressed?" She scowled
“You ought to come into my company looking like a professional worker and not some 1950s dance instructor” He snapped,” I tried to ignore those hideous shoes on your legs but just couldn't, why are you so backward?”
Ayla was trying so hard not to lose it, she knew what she was wearing was okay to the extent that his female employees thought she had wanted to seduce him.
She knew he acknowledged how good she looked but was too arrogant to compliment her.
“I look good and I know it,” Ayla said, folding her arms across her chest tightly.
His eyes dropped to her chest and she quickly unfolded her arms, she bit her lower lip while he looked away.
“Don’t let what those gossips say about your dressing deceive you, you look ridiculous in that lame outfit” He said, resting back on his chair.
Ayla bit her lower lip and looked down at the shoes he had called 'hideous’
He watched her and she bet his heart was overjoyed to know that his words had eaten into her this time.
“Whatever you say" She muttered under her breath.
Lucas sighed and twisted his tie to be loose then unbuttoned the first and second buttons of his sleeve.
“Remind me tomorrow, I'd have to get you more classy and workable clothes " He said quickly.
Ayla's head shot up to look at him and he looked away as if the words he had uttered had been forced out of his throat.
“What?" Slipped off her lips.
