Chapter 2: Rebirth of Vengeance: The Game Begins

908 Words
A searing pain coursed through my body, and all I could see was a red haze. The blood surged like a tidal wave, blurring my vision until I slipped into unconsciousness. When I awoke, shock washed over me as I found myself once again holding that scalding bowl of medicine in the Liang family home. Confusion quickly morphed into realization: I had been reborn. This time, I vowed to make those who had wronged me pay. Not one of them would escape my wrath! I tossed the bowl aside and dashed into the bedroom, my heart racing as I grabbed my phone. I needed to check my bank account. As a civil servant, my salary was decent, but I had handed over every penny to Liang Zhiyong for houses and cars. Years of hard work had resulted in a paltry fifty thousand in investments and twenty thousand in cash. No, this was unacceptable. I had to reclaim what was rightfully mine. With just a week before the zombie virus outbreak, time was of the essence. Selling the house or the car wouldn’t suffice; I needed a faster solution. I could use Zhiyong’s personal information to secure loans online. I reached out to several small lending companies. They informed me that I would need to provide personal details and complete identity verification, including a facial recognition check, before any funds could be released. Determined, I filled out the necessary forms and headed out. I drove to Liang Zhiyong’s office, where he managed a real estate company, raking in a handsome salary after a decade of hard work. When I arrived, he was deep in a meeting. As he emerged, his face was a mask of irritation. “What are you doing here? Shouldn’t you be at the hospital for your injections?” “Zhiyong…” I feigned caution, putting on my best innocent expression. “I need to pay the medical bills. The payment card linked to your information has expired, so I came to ask for your help.” “What do you need from me?” he asked, his patience wearing thin. “Just a quick facial verification, and I’ll be out of your hair,” I said, pulling out my phone. Without a hint of suspicion—after all, I had always been the dutiful, submissive wife—he complied. He settled into a chair, rolling his eyes as I held the phone up to him, prompting him to blink and open his mouth for the facial recognition software. “Are you done yet? I’m in the middle of a meeting!” he snapped. With a cheerful ding, the approval notifications flooded my screen, confirming that the loans had been processed. A wave of relief washed over me, and I looked at him with gratitude. “All done! Thank you, darling.” He grunted in response and walked away, and as he did, I caught a glimpse of a woman peering around the corner of the hallway. Long, flowing hair, creamy skin, and a pair of seductive, almond-shaped eyes. It was her—the mistress! So they were already together at the office, living just downstairs from me. It was clear whose idea this arrangement was. Instead of boiling with anger, I felt an unexpected sense of amusement. I turned and left the office, chuckling to myself. As I drove home, my phone buzzed with notifications: the loans had all been deposited—totaling a staggering one hundred twenty thousand yuan. I didn’t return home; I headed straight to a real estate agency. “I’d like to rent the top floor of that thirty-story luxury apartment building across from my current home.” “Unfortunately, the top floor is unavailable,” the agent said, sounding apologetic. “However, we have a beautifully renovated four-bedroom apartment on the twenty-third floor. Would you be interested?” I chuckled, realizing the ironic twist of fate; my current home was also on the twenty-third floor. “Sure, I’ll take it. How much?” “Three months’ rent upfront, totaling thirty thousand yuan,” the agent explained. “Let’s get this done,” I replied, swiping my card without hesitation. I walked out with the keys to my new apartment, a sense of triumph swelling within me. The layout featured two apartments per floor, making security easier. I quickly found a company online that specialized in installing security measures. I replaced all the windows with bulletproof glass and fitted strong, stainless steel burglar bars that didn’t impede light or air. No bird, not even the smallest sparrow, would find its way inside. For extra precaution, I had them install an electric fence around the windows. With the push of a button inside, a high-voltage current would surge through, ensuring no intruders would dare enter. The contractor raised an eyebrow at my peculiar request. “Why such extensive security measures?” I smiled innocently, “My elderly relative has delusions and fears that something might come in. I want to make her feel safe.” Just as I paid the deposit, my mother-in-law’s call came in, her voice dripping with venom as she unleashed a torrent of insults. “Do you think you can escape? You useless daughter-in-law, what have you done now?!” I chuckled softly to myself. This was just the beginning. I was ready to reclaim my life and take down everyone who had wronged me, one by one.
