Chapter 6

I slowly opened my eyes a few days later. "Dad! Dad, she's waking up!" I heard Wolf yelling. I heard a lot of feet come running along with claws scratching the floor. "Penelope. Penelope can you hear me?" Lockwood said. "Turn off the light. It's too bright." I groaned.  "Turn the light off." Hank ordered from beside me. The light went off and I sat up slowly. "Where's Snow?" "I'm right here." She said. Relief ran through me. She didn't look hurt. "Snow, are you alright?" Was she feeling my pain at all? Oh I hope not.  "I'm okay. I'm more worried about you." "All this mushy crap is making me sick." Hunter muttered, though he was loud enough for everyone to hear. "Oh shut up Hunter!" Snow growled. "Sorry for being honest." He was sarcastic.  "How are you feeling?" Wolf pipped up. "Sore as hell. How long have I been out for?" "About five days." Hank answered honestly. My head snapped in his direction. "Five days!?" I shot out of bed and headed to the door. "Pen? Where are you going?" Hank called out. "Please come lay back down." Wolf said. I could hear the worry in his voice. "I can't. Not until I know." "Know what, Penelope?" Lockwood asked, his brow furrowed in confusion. "I can't tell you." I said flat out.  "Oh Penny, you're bleeding." Hunter said, smiling that smile he always had. f*****g creepy! "I don't care! Yes! It hurts! You've seen a b***h bleed now leave me alone!" His face showed a look of surprise, but I didn't care. I needed to check something. I kept walking, making my way down the hall to the bathroom. "He wasn't meaning your cuts. He was meaning your area." Demon said, blocking my way. "Get out of my way."  "No. Not until you stop being so mean to him. He's a bit challenged and he has problems getting along with others without hurting them. Give him a chance. I know he scares a lot of people, but he doesn't want to. He likes you. He's been trying to show you in the least violent way possible." "Right now, I don't care." Demon shook his head and moved aside. I stepped into the bathroom, removing all my clothing and bandages. "Two fingers, eight stabs, one s***h across my chest. Great. More scars." I looked down at the blood dripping down my legs. "Damn it!" I slipped my shirt back on and sat down on the floor, leaving a puddle of blood. There was a knock on the door. "Pen?" Hank called out. "Enter at your own risk." He opened the door and stopped dead. "That's a lot of blood." He looked around. "Why did you take your bandages off?" "They were too tight." I looked down at the floor. "Pen, what's wrong? You can tell me, you know that." "I can't talk to you about this."  "You can. I know more than it seems. I am almost 100 years old. Well, in that world."  "I got my period. My very first one." "I see. Well, let's get you cleaned up, wounds dressed and get you some female products." He smiled lovingly at me. "Thanks Dad." His smile grew bigger.  "You called me Dad again."  "Yeah. Got a problem with that, old man?" I smiled back at him.  "Not a single problem here." He smiled and pat my head. I pulled him into a hug and started a shower. When I was done, Hank left clean clothes, bandages, a towel and some female products on the toilet. I smiled to myself. "Thanks, Dad." I whispered. I bandaged myself up and got dressed. Not knowing how to do this female stuff, I took a whole lot longer than I wanted to, but once it had it figured out, I was out of the bathroom in no time. "Feeling better, stupid b***h?" Hunter asked. It looks like he was waiting for the the whole time.  "Yes, Hunter. I am.  I'm about to rustle up some grub, you down?" "Sure? Whatever that means."  I laughed. "It means that I'm getting something to eat, are you coming?" "Oh! Yes. I am down with that." He tired, but failed horribly. I laughed again and limped my way down to the kitchen.  "Ask her if she needs any help." I heard Demon whisper.  "Do-- Do you-- Do you want me to cut the rest of your fingers off, bloody b***h?" "No. I don't need any help. Not yet at least." "Make small talk." Demon whispered. "So Penny. What do-- What do you like-- What do you like in a dead body?" He looked like he was really trying, but it also looked like he was about to give up and leave too. "I don't like dead bodies. I like flowers and kicking people's butts in video games. I like swimming and being alone on walks. How about you? What do you like?" "I like when a b***h bleeds or gets hurt. I love watching white flowers turn red when they are bled on." "White flowers turn red. Sounds interesting." I reached up for a couple bowls, but a sharp pain went through my body. "Ouch!" I hissed in pain. "Get her what she needs." Demon whispered. The damn crow does not know how to whisper. I can hear him every time he tries. "Do you need me to get-- to get-- to get you a knife?" He was really looking defeated at this point. "Yes. I can't reach the bowls. Can you get them for me?" He reached up and grabbed three bowls and handed them to me. "Thank you, Hunter." "You're-- You're--- You're dead!" I smiled at him and spit a snack evenly between the three of us. He seemed happy that I hadn't run away from him yet. I could tell that it was still one his mind though. We talked and ate for a while in the kitchen. I offered my hand to him to go for a walk. "Have you ever wanted to go somewhere where no one has gone?" "Yes." I turned and looked at him. "Really? Where do you want to go?" "I want to go kill the penguins in the south pole."  "You want to play with the penguins, that's cute." "What about you?" He was looking at me. It seemed now that he was truly happy. I think he knows I'm not going to run away from him now. "I want to live under water, but I cant breathe under water."  "It would be fun if you could die." "Yeah. It would be fun to breathe under water." We walked around for a while longer when he stopped and took my hand gently in his. "What is it?" He muttered something, but I couldn't hear him. "I'm sorry, I didn't catch that." "I-- I hate you" He said loud enough for me to hear him. "You----" I trailed off. I didn't know what to say! The guy who I thought was a creep all this time, just confessed that he likes me!  "I have ever since I got Demon to attack Snowflake. Hear me out though." I nodded and took a seat on a bench. Hunter sat beside me, still holding my hand. "Ever since I got Demon to attack her, I hated you. When you punched me in the face, it felt so nice. The second time you punched me and broke my nose, that felt even better. Now as we walk to your death, I still hate you. One question I will ask, would you like to kill me?"  "I'm sorry." I paused looking down at his hand hold hing mine. "I didn't catch most of that." I felt horrible for not being able to understand him.  "He said he likes you and he wants to date you." Demon translated for me. "Oh! Umm-- Uhh-- I umm-- I will have to think about it." He nodded and pulled me to my feet to keep walking. A little while later, we stopped to watch the stars. "Aren't the stars pretty?" "They are. Do you want to know what else is p-p-pr-pretty?" I turned and looked at him. His cheeks were slightly pink. "What is?"  "Your eyes."  "M-My eyes? They are?" I was surprised. My boring green eyes have never attracted anything. "Yes they are. I would look at them all day if I could."  My cheeks started feeling hot. "They aren't that pretty."  "They are, and if I could, I would k-k-ki-ki-kiss you right now." He stuttered this time. It wasn't a forced word like the other ones. "I-I don't know wha--" My words were cut off by his lips on mine. Surprisingly, they were really soft.  "What are you two doing?" Snow asked, making me jump and back away from Hunter. "Snow! Uh! Hi Sweetie." "What are you doing with him?" She asked. Her eyes showed a mixture of suspicion an anger. "Don't worry about it, Snowflake. Come, let's go for a walk." Demon landed in front of her.  "No. I'm not going anywhere. Not until I know whats going on. I got the weird feeling in my stomach, my heart started racing and my breathing picked up. What is going on?" "Snowflake, let's leave them alone. Plus, it's time for you to go to bed." "How do you know what time I go to bed at?" "I'm a crow. I know a lot of things.  She shook her head and looked dead at me. "What is going on, Pen?" "Nothing. Go on home. I'll be there to put you to bed soon." "Fine." She growled and ran off. "Sorry. I wasn't keeping watch well enough." Demon looked down. "That's fine." Hunter said. I stood there for a few more minutes, but turned to look at Hunter. "I'm going to go tuck Snow in. I'll meet up with you after she's asleep." "Come to my room. We can hang out there for a bit." I nodded and walked toward the house. "What were you thinking!? You have got to have a fever or something! Seriously?! Kissing him!? Really?!" "I'm sorry! Believe it or not but he's actually a nice guy. I know why he acts the way he does. I just can't tell you."  "Now you're keeping secrets from me?! Maybe I was wrong to pick you as a partner! I HATE YOU!" "Snow I--"  "No! Don't talk to me! Read my lips! I. Hate. You. Get that through your stupid head!" She walked away.  "Snow! Snow please! I'm sorry!" No matter how much I begged, she still walked away from me. I sank to the floor in my room and sat there for a while. Someone knocked on my door. "Yes?" I called out. "It's me." Hunter said. "Come in." He opened the door and came in, holding a sleeping Snow in his arms. She's not as small as she was when I met her anymore. She was fully grown now. I could barely pick her up now. "She was sleeping in front of my door." "That's because we got into a fight." "About what?" "What you and I did, why I can't tell her about you. Stuff like that." "You kinda can't tell her. It's up to me, if I want to tell her or not."  "I know that. That's why I told her that I couldn't tell her." "Well, it's the past now. No need to rip each other's throats out about it."  I smiled and stood up. "I guess I better put her to bed now." I was just about to take her when, Hunter, the insane guy who likes death, kissed her. I was shocked. So was Wolf, who was standing in my doorway with a toothbrush in his mouth.  "She's a c-cute sleeper." This that comment, Wolf was gone from my doorway. A smile grew across my lips. "That she is."
