He sat on the dark banks of the Nile with Anuxsous’ head in his lap, gazing up at the stars. It had been Eons since he had seen the stars. He played absently with her long silver hair as he waited for her to wake, his Raven purred contently in the glow of their mate. Soon, he felt her stir and groan against the pain she was feeling. “Easy,” he whispered to her, stroking her hair gently. Her eyes shot open as she gasped for air. Her sapphire eyes were red-rimmed and hungry. Her fangs were unsheathed and wanting. Never almost jumped back at the sight of her and her feral rage. Pain! Burning searing pain, it was all she felt, all over. It wrecked through her body taking hold of every inch of her. The burning in her throat was the worst of it. She could hear the Raven talking to her, but he sounded so far away. She rolled from his lap and crawled slowly toward the river before her. She drank from the cool waters, but it didn't soothe her. “It won’t help," Never sighed, sounding almost bored. He walked over and knelt beside her as she vomited up the water. “The gift that Lucifer gave you comes with a steep and terrible price, I’m afraid.” He said, “The thirst in your throat, water will not slake. The hunger pains in your stomach, food will not satisfy.” He solemnly looked at her with sad amber eyes. “Then, what?” she asked shakily. He looked at her oddly, as if contemplating his answer for a moment. “Life sustains life, Anuxsous, and blood is life.” “I have to drink blood?” she wailed, her eyes tearing up. Never stood and turned to her, holding out his long pale hand to her. “It is a terrible price, that must be paid,” he stated, “But it isn’t all bad, I promise.” She took his hand and slowly rose to her feet, “I am a monster.” she sobbed. “No, little one, not a monster.” Never wanted so badly, in that moment, to scoop his mate into his arms and ease her sorrow
