Chapter 4. After Pete's recent marriage to Domitila, I found it puzzling that he expressed interest in me. "Are you sure that you are okay?" Inquiringly, I arched my eyebrows in concern. This revelation came as a shock to me because I had known Pete for a long time. We were sitting in his car, which was parked in a poorly lit part of a peaceful park. The tension between us was palpable as his remarks lingered in the air. He glanced at me briefly, his emerald eyes betraying a range of emotions: remorse, desire, and doubt. "No, I'm not okay," he whispered. I thought I could hold these feelings back, but they just won't go away. I am being consumed by my emotions, and I am unable to control them. I leaned back in my chair, trying to make sense of his confession. Pete has always been someone I could trust to be loyal and committed. His internal struggle was shocking and unsettling to observe. Pete, you're married to Domitila. You sealed her vows, and her love for you is immense. Choosing to ignore that is not an option. His shoulders slumped as he let out a deep breath. "I know about it. Nothing like this was in my plans. As much as I enjoy spending time with her, you keep popping into my head. It's as if I'm living two completely separate lives, and it's driving me insane. I could feel the weight of his remarks on me. Ethical dilemmas abounding, the matter was intricate. "What do you want, Pete?" With pleading eyes, he raised his head to meet mine. Frankly, I'm uncertain. I wish I could control these feelings, but alas, I just can't. I had to tell you because I can't keep it bottled up any longer. I reached out and touched his shoulder, doing my best to reassure him. "You should talk to Domitila about this. She has a right to know the truth, and you two must make a decision. Nodding, he had a hurt expression. "I agree with you. My only request is that she forgive me. After a minute or two, Pete raised his head, as if absolutely sure of his next words. According to Pete, "I am interested in you once more." You are the object of my desire. Domitila isn't the one I desire. No one else compares to you! As I glanced over at Pete, my cheeks turned red with perplexion. "Are you sure that you are okay?" I had questions for Pete. My mind was racing with a plethora of emotions as I glanced at Pete, trying to absorb the gravity of his words. It was as if the world around him had vanished, leaving just the strange conversation going on in his car. "I'm shocked that you're saying this," My tone was one of disbelief as I fired back an angry response. You claim to want me, but you're married to Domitila. This is very confusing, Pete. His nod conveyed a sense of desperation that lit up his eyes. I know this is a disaster, and I despise myself for placing you here. The way I feel, though, I can't deny. As a storm of sadness and anger surged through me, I pulled my hand away from his shoulder. "Pete, a miracle can't be wished for by just turning a switch. In this film, we do not go off into the sunset side by side. A debt of gratitude and duty is due to Domitila. He lowered his head, his brow wrinkled with embarrassment. That's right. I had no say in any of this happening. Nevertheless, I have no control over my emotions. I attempted to quiet my rushing thoughts by taking a deep breath. "Have you even thought about what Domitila would go through if she found out about this?" There was complete quiet from Pete. He hadn't adequately considered the cumulative impact of his acts. "I just needed to tell you, to be honest with you," he commented. "Being truthful with me is one thing, Pete. But you must also be truthful with yourself and Domitila," I said firmly. "If you really care about her, you'll do what's right for both of you." We both struggled to make sense of the issue's complexity, and the minutes passed in an awkward silence. The distant, unnerving sound of crickets chirping accompanied our conversation. Finally, Pete spoke with a sense of resignation. "I agree with you. I must speak with Domitila despite my fear of what may happen. I agreed and gave a subtle nod. It won't be easy, but there's just one way out of this mess. And the consequences will be yours to handle nonetheless. Observing Pete's facial expressions, I questioned whether he was really interested in us. I couldn't tell if he was being serious or just trying to trick me. Then, out of nowhere, Pete drew me next to him, and he kissed me tenderly on the lips before I could respond. In an effort to rediscover who I was, I shoved Pete aside. "You b***h!" When I turned around, I noticed that Pete's wife, Domitila, was gazing at us. She appeared very enraged by what she was witnessing right now. "How dare you abuse my husband, you b***h?" Suddenly, Domitila lunged at me, and before I could defend myself, she struck me square in the face. The sharp pain of Domitila's smack echoed in my ears and left a welt on my cheek. I stumbled backward, more due to shock than the force of the blow. Immediately, Pete attempted to defuse the tension by moving in between us. "Domitila, just relax!" he pleaded, his voice betraying his despair. "Let's all sit down and talk this out." Domitila's fury was boiling over, and she couldn't take her gaze off of me. Do you want to talk? Would you like to have a conversation in light of what I've just seen? We will have heard her side of the story by the time I inform the pack elders about this skank. Her life has been devastated. I will make sure that that occurs. Not a good woman. I am going to destroy your life!
