I stepped into the kitchen. My heart was beating like a drum and I thought everybody heard it. The kitchen was buzzing along-- dishes were steaming, pots were clanging and voices were raising and falling with instructions and answers. The heat first caught my eye--and the odor which made my empty stomach turn still further. Then the head of the kitchen shouted above everything else like a knife. It was a big woman with a large amount of iron grey hair tied into a large knot, with years worth of wrinkles etched into her face warning any previous offender not to mess with her. “I need four people to go to the market with me!
