WEEK ONE
The fourth body was found on Thursday.
This one was near the state park, almost fifteen miles north of Route 15. A ranger spotted it at dawn — or what was left of it — just off one of the hiking trails. Same MO as the others, the news said. Same "animal attack" pattern.
I watched the report on my phone during my break at the club, my stomach churning.
"Authorities are urging residents to avoid hiking alone and to report any unusual wildlife sightings," the anchor said, her face carefully neutral. "The investigation is ongoing."
The fifth body came Saturday.
This one was closer. Found along the creek that ran through the valley — the same creek that wound past our cabin, miles upstream. A fisherman discovered it tangled in the roots of a fallen tree.
