WEDNESDAY The feeling didn't go away. Something was still wrong — I could feel it in my bones, that prickling awareness that someone was watching. Fao felt it too. He did three patrols that night, circling the cabin in wolf form, nose to the ground. He found nothing. "He's being careful now," Fao said when he came back inside, his breath misting in the cold air. "Knows I found the cameras. Knows I'm watching." "So what do we do?" "We wait." He pulled me against his chest, his arms tight around me. "And we stay ready." I barely slept that night. Every creak of the cabin, every rustle of wind made me jerk awake, heart pounding.
